Frank Kirn (born February 17, 1969 in Düsseldorf ) is a former German soccer goalkeeper .

Career

He completed a game in the Bundesliga for Fortuna Düsseldorf on October 18, 1986 in a 4-0 defeat against 1. FC Köln . Kirn replaced the regular goalkeeper Jörg Schmadtke , who had been in the Düsseldorf goal in all previous season games. In the further course of the season he was no longer considered by coach Dieter Brei and his successor Gert Meyer , instead Rudi Kargus and in the last season games Jörg Schmadtke were used again. In the two following years he did not come to any further use for Düsseldorf. To Fortuna's second division relegation and missed resurgence moved Kirn in the summer of 1988 to 1. FC Bocholt in the Oberliga Nordrhein . With the club he was runner- up in the 1992/93 season, qualified for the DFB Cup and took part in the German amateur championship in 1993 . From 1994 to 1997 he played with the club in the Regionalliga West / Südwest . After almost ten years as a regular goalkeeper, Kirn temporarily lost his place in goal to Guido Koltermann (1997) and Thorsten Albustin (2000), but always came back stronger. He played over 400 league games for 1. FC Bocholt, where Kirn was active until 2007 and in his last season as a player also took on the position of goalkeeper coach, which he still holds today.

At the time of his first division appearance for Düsseldorf, at the age of 17 years and 8 months, he was the third youngest goalkeeper in the Bundesliga after Jürgen Friedl and Dirk Drescher and the eighth youngest player ever.
