Gert Meyer (born August 27, 1946 ) is a former German football player and coach .

Career as a football player and coach

Gert Meyer played as an active footballer in the 1970s in what was then the third-class Oberliga Nord for SV Union Salzgitter . With a second place in the final table of the 1976/77 season, Salzgitter took part in the promotion round to the 2nd Bundesliga, which was not successfully contested. Around 1980 he changed position within the club and coached the A-youth.

From 1985 Meyer was assistant coach at Fortuna Düsseldorf until he took over the position of head coach from Dieter Brei on April 2, 1987, after the 22nd matchday of the 1986/87 season . Fortuna was at this point in the Bundesliga in 17th and penultimate place in the table, one point behind the relegation place 16. His debut as Bundesliga coach against Bayer Uerdingen was lost 4-1. With three wins, two draws and seven defeats during his tenure, he was ultimately unable to prevent Düsseldorf's relegation, so he had to vacate his post as head coach at the end of the season. In the following season 1987/88 he worked again as an assistant coach, this time under the newly signed coach Aleksandar Ristić .

Others
