Thorsten Albustin (born January 4, 1974 in Duisburg ) is a soccer goalkeeper and coach.

career

Thorsten Albustin learned to play football at the DJK Vierlinden, then he switched to the C-youth from SuS 09 Dinslaken . At 18, he came of this association in the second team and gathered there first experience in the Kreisliga A . A year later he was promoted to the Oberliga Nordrhein with the first team in the 1993/94 season .

Due to his performance, the amateur department of the MSV Duisburg signed him . For the time being he was number three behind Holger Gehrke and Thomas Gill . After a finger injury Gills he sat on the fifth day of the 1996/1997 season for the first time on the bench. Three weeks later he was used for the first time in a Bundesliga game after a red card for Gehrke in the 87th minute in the away game at Hamburger SV . Albustin could not prevent the free kick to equalize 1-1. Albustin stayed with MSV until the summer of 1997 and represented his injured colleagues several times, but only on the bench. During this time, he played his competitive games in the association league and in the UEFA Intertoto Cup .

In the meantime, Albustin had started studying theology , but still moved to the top division of the Bundesliga club Borussia Mönchengladbach . In this club too, Albustin benefited from his colleagues' bad luck with injuries. Borussia's goalkeeper Uwe Kamps suffered an Achilles tendon ruptured before the start of the season and was therefore not available for the entire season. His deputy was now Robert Enke, and substitute keeper Jörg Schmadtke took his place on the bench . However, this left the club during the winter break, so that Oberligamann Albustin rose to number two. On matchday 31, Enke fell out due to an intestinal flu and Albustin guarded the gate for the already safe relegated team. Against SC Freiburg he managed to fend off a penalty in the 80th minute . In his third and last Bundesliga appearance, two weeks later, he caused an own goal against Werder Bremen .

After this season Albustin left Borussia as a result of differences with coach Rainer Bonhof . He switched to the first division club 1. FC Bocholt and began training as an industrial clerk at the same time . After a stopover at Hamborn 07 , Albustin came back to Dinslaken in 2002 in the district league. Albustin ended his active career in 2007 with SV Straelen . After the end of his career, Rot-Weiss Essen took him on as goalkeeping coach of the 1st team.

In 2011 Albustin worked on a goalkeeper book that Copress-Verlag published in October. Football goalkeeper has since enjoyed recognition in professional circles. For the 2012/13 season he moved to MSV Duisburg , where he was co-coach and goalkeeper coach of the second team. After a year he left the club and became a full-time goalkeeper coach of the U17 and U19 teams of FC Schalke 04 .

In September 2013, Albustin made his comeback as a goalkeeper. For two seasons he guarded the goal of the regional soccer team SV Walsum.

In August 2015 he became coach of the RWS Lohberg club in the district league A, which he led in his first year as a champion in the district league. After a year and a half he left the club during the winter break and took over the coaching position at the district league club Hamminkelner SV.
