Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting (born March 23, 1989 in Hamburg ) is a German - Cameroonian football player . He is under contract with Paris Saint-Germain .

Club career

youth

Choupo-Moting began playing football in the youth of FC Teutonia 05 Ottensen in Hamburg-Ottensen . In 2000 he moved to Altona 93 , with whose E-youth he won the Hamburg Cup. In 2003 he moved to FC St. Pauli .

Hamburger SV

2004 Choupo-Moting joined the youth academy of Hamburger SV . In the winter break of the 2006/07 season he was appointed to the squad of the second team. On May 5, 2007, Choupo-Moting signed a professional contract that ran until 2010, which was extended on February 1, 2008 to June 30, 2011. He was a member of the HSV Bundesliga team from the 2007/08 season. On August 1, 2007, Choupo-Moting scored his first goal for the pros in a 1-0 win in the friendly against Juventus Turin . Four days later, on August 5, 2007, he made his first competitive goal in the DFB Cup match at Holstein Kiel, which HSV won 5-0.

He made his Bundesliga debut on August 11, 2007, when he came on against Hannover 96 in the 69th minute.

1. FC Nuremberg

Choupo-Moting at 1. FC Nürnberg 2010

At the end of August 2009 he was loaned to 1. FC Nürnberg for a year . On September 19, 2009, he scored his first Bundesliga goal on his second appearance in the 2-1 defeat by Bayern Munich . In the first half of the season he only played the full time twice in ten missions. He was substituted on against Bayern Munich on matchday 23 and has been a regular since then. His one goal remained until matchday 25, but then with two goals he had a share in the victory against the previously undefeated championship candidate Bayer Leverkusen. With six goals in 27 games, including the two relegation games, he was the second most successful striker of the season for the Franconians.

Back at HSV

For the 2010/11 season he returned to Hamburger SV , for whom he made ten Bundesliga (two goals) and two DFB Pokal games in the first half of the season .

For the second half of the Bundesliga in the 2010/11 season, Choupo-Moting should switch to 1. FC Köln on loan . However, due to a technical defect in the fax machine, the change failed: Choupo-Motting's father and consultant sent the completed employment contract to 1. FC Köln by fax at 5:49 pm. But only one side of the contract came there. The page with Choupo-Moting's signature reached 1. FC Köln at 6:00 p.m. The club forwarded the contract to the DFL at 6:06 p.m. , where it arrived at 6:13 p.m. - 13 minutes late. The transfer failed. Then 1. FC Köln filed a complaint with the DFL on the grounds that they could not help with technical problems. On February 3, 2011, the DFL rejected the request to approve the change despite missing the deadline for submitting the transfer documents.

After the loan deal did not materialize, Choupo-Moting was no longer taken into account for the first team and was used at HSV II in the Regionalliga Nord . His contract, which expired on June 30, 2011, was not renewed.

1. FSV Mainz 05

For the 2011/12 season, Choupo-Moting moved to Bundesliga club 1. FSV Mainz 05 on a free transfer . He signed a three-year contract until June 30, 2014. In his first season for Mainz, he was the team's top scorer with ten goals. His second year in Mainz was unhappy. After a meniscus tear in his left knee shortly after the start of the season and lengthy rehab, he suffered the same injury a second time in spring 2013 and only made eight league games. He made his comeback for the Mainz first team on August 3, 2013 in the first round of the DFB Cup in the game at Fortuna Köln and scored the 2-1 final score for Mainz 05 shortly before the end of the game. Thanks to a very strong 2013 / 14 for Mainz and the fact that his contract expires in summer 2014, clubs such as AS Roma or Borussia Mönchengladbach were interested in signing Choupo-Moting.

FC Schalke 04

In the summer break of 2014, Choupo-Moting moved to FC Schalke 04 on a free transfer . He signed a contract there until June 30, 2017. He made his first competitive game for Schalke in the defeat against Dynamo Dresden in the DFB Cup . Five days later he made his first league game on the 1st matchday of the Bundesliga 2014/15 in a 2-1 defeat against Hannover 96 , in which he prepared the 1-0. On September 17, 2014, he made his first UEFA Champions League game in a 1-1 draw against Chelsea . In his first game against Mainz 05 after his move, he prepared two goals in a 4-1 win. He made his first hat-trick in the Bundesliga on matchday 14 against VfB Stuttgart . Schalke won 4-0, while Choupo-Moting prepared a goal. His contract, which expired at the end of the 2016/17 season, was not extended.

Stoke City and Paris Saint-Germain

On August 7, 2017, Choupo-Moting signed a contract with the English club Stoke City . For Stoke, he scored five goals in 30 games in the 2017/18 Premier League season ; at the end of the season, the team was relegated. At the end of August 2018, his contract was terminated prematurely and he joined Paris Saint-Germain .

National team

Choupo-Moting was a German junior national player from 2006 to 2010 and during this time ran through the various junior teams from U-18 to U-21 .

Choupo-Moting was appointed to the Cameroon squad for the 2010 World Cup by national coach Paul Le Guen . He scored his first international goal on June 5, 2010 in a 3: 4 against Serbia. On June 14, 2010 he finally played himself "firmly" in the national team of Cameroon: In the defeat against Japan in the first group game of the 2010 World Cup, he played from the beginning and was therefore no longer allowed to play for the German national team. On June 19, 2010 Cameroon was eliminated early in the second group game of the World Cup after a 2-1 draw against Denmark. However, he was on the bench for 90 minutes in this game.

Choupo-Moting was appointed to the squad for the final round of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil by Cameroon's national coach Volker Finke . He played in all three group stage games without a win and was eliminated from the tournament on June 23, 2014 after a 4-1 defeat against hosts Brazil, bottom of the table.

Choupo-Moting was not nominated for the Cameroonian squad at the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup .

Style of play

Choupo-Moting can be used variably in the offensive. His root position is the left wing , but can also act on the right wing or on the ten . In a game system with two strikers, he takes over that of the playing striker ( Second Striker ), but can also be brought in as the sole striker in the penalty area. Thanks to its height of 1.91 meters, it is very strong at the top and robust in duels. Its greatest strengths are its high speed and endurance. Choupo-Moting is considered to be a two-footed, technically strong player who has enormous dribbling skills and can also hold its own against several opponents.
