The Westfälische Anzeiger is a daily newspaper in Hamm . The newspaper provides the supraregional cover for other newspapers of the Ippen group in Westphalia (working group of Westphalian daily newspapers). The sold circulation of the Westfälischer Anzeiger in its city edition of Hamm is 29,125 copies, together with the headers Soester Anzeiger , Lüdenscheider Nachrichten and Der Patriot , the sheet has 112,348 copies, a decrease of 30.4 percent since 1998.
The Westfälische Anzeiger is the only daily newspaper in the city of Hamm ; Hamm is thus a one-newspaper group .
The most important regional competitor in the extended circulation area is the WAZ media group ( Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung , Westfälische Rundschau , Westfalenpost ). Since 2008, the Westfälische Anzeiger has made an online version available every day as an e-paper , which the reader can view, download and print out in the original sentence.

The newspaper was founded on April 3, 1822 by print shop owner Heinrich Jakob Grote as the Kreis Hammsches Wochenblatt . As a reason for publishing a weekly newspaper, Grote cites the following in the first edition:
“In the Hamm district it had long been the wish of many to become more closely acquainted with the orders of the authorities and the notifications of public sales, leases, etc., and also to have the opportunity to acquaint their fellow citizens with private matters. "
On February 2, 1825, the paper appeared for the first time under the title Wochenblatt für die Stadt und der Kreis Hamm , since 1845 in two editions (Wednesdays and Saturdays). The main title Westfälischer Anzeiger was used for the first time on December 9, 1850, and since July 1, 1866, three issues per week have been created (Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays). As a competitor, the Thiemann family founded the Catholic-oriented Westphalian Courier in 1872 , which was re-established as the Neuer Westfälischer Kurier on September 6, 1946. Lizenträgerin this Center Party ready or almost ready, twice a week in Werl appearing newspaper was Helene Wessel . On November 1, 1949, the publishers Griebsch and Thiemann published the joint Westfälischer Anzeiger und Kurier for the first time . At the end of the 1960s, the addition of courier was dispensed with after the Thiemann publishing family had left the company in 1962. On June 30, 1967, the new building on Gutenbergstrasse was finally handed over to its intended purpose.
