Muhammad Shabir ( Arabic محمد شبير; *  1946 in Chan Junis in the Gaza Strip ) is a Palestinian scientist and was a candidate for the office of Prime Minister of the Palestinian Territories in November 2006 .

Shabir's father was a leading member of the Muslim Brotherhood in the Gaza Strip. Schabir himself studied in Alexandria and at West Virginia University in the USA, where he received his doctorate in microbiology . In 1990 he became President of the Islamic University in Gaza and held that position until his resignation in 2005.

Shabir is close to Hamas , but without being an official member. However, he also has good relations with the Fatah movement. That is why he was brought up for discussion by Hamas as the successor to Ismail Haniyya . Due to the general political situation, however, these intentions were dashed. Little is known about his political views, as he has hardly commented on them before.

Shabir is married and has six children. His wife is the deputy minister for women in the current Hamas administration.
