childhood and education

Felix Passlack was born as the son of Ralf and Birgit Passlack in Bottrop in the Ruhr area . His father works as a firefighter . Passlack started playing soccer at the age of four. He attended the Gustav Heinemann secondary school in Bottrop and was a fan of FC Schalke 04 in his youth . Passlack counts the former English soccer player David Beckham and his former teammate Mario Götze among his role models.

Career

In the club

Beginnings

After playing for SV Fortuna Bottrop like his father , he moved to the Lower Rhine League at Rot-Weiß Oberhausen at the age of twelve . During his time at RWO, he had offers to go to Bayer 04 Leverkusen , VfL Bochum , 1. FC Köln , FC Schalke 04 or Borussia Dortmund . He finally decided to move to Borussia Dortmund's junior performance center, where he was part of the B-Juniors from 2013. In his first season he suffered an ankle injury in the first half of the season . Nevertheless, he was with the team in the second half of the Westphalia Cup and West German champion, whereby the team took part in the final round of the German championship. There the team reached the final and became German champions with a 2-1 win over RB Leipzig .

In the following season, at the end of the first half of 2015, he was taken to the professional team's winter training camp in La Manga by the then coach of the professional team, Jürgen Klopp . In April 2015 he signed a contract with BVB that ran until summer 2018. In the second half of the season he managed to defend his title in the Bundesliga with the U17 with a 4-0 win in the final of the German championship against VfB Stuttgart ; he scored the 3-0. In September 2015, the DFB awarded him the Fritz Walter Gold Medal in the U17 age group for his achievements .

Pro at Borussia Dortmund

At the beginning of the 2015/16 season he played in the U-19 Bundesliga before moving up to the professional squad for the second half of the season . On March 2, 2016, he made his debut in the 2-0 away win against SV Darmstadt 98 in the Bundesliga and was used three times by the end of the season. In addition, he played the final round of the German championship with the U19s towards the end of the season and became German junior champions for the third time with a 5-2 win against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim , where he was directly involved in all five goals. In his second year with the professionals, he was often used because of injured players in the Dortmund team. For example, he played in the 2-0 defeat in the Supercup against FC Bayern Munich for the entire season and made his debut in the 2-1 win against Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League . When he scored his first goal in the Champions League in an 8-4 win against Legia Warsaw on November 22, 2016 , he replaced Julian Draxler as the youngest German Champions League goalscorer at the age of 18 and 177 days . In the 2016/17 season - his last junior year - Passlack came parallel to some appearances in the A-youth, with which he was able to defend the championship title.

On loan through Europe

On August 30, 2017, Passlack extended his contract with BVB until June 30, 2021 and moved to TSG 1899 Hoffenheim on loan until June 30, 2019 . There, however, could not prevail under the coach Julian Nagelsmann in the 2017/18 season . In addition to two Bundesliga and two Europa League appearances , Passlack played twelve times in the second team in the fourth-class Regionalliga Südwest .

For the 2018/19 season , the loan with TSG 1899 Hoffenheim was terminated prematurely and Passlack was on loan for a year to the English second division Norwich City , trained by German coach Daniel Farke . The defender played five times for the East English and rose with them at the end of the season in the Premier League .

After the loan contract expired, Passlack did not return to Dortmund, but was loaned out directly to the Dutch first division club Fortuna Sittard for the 2019/20 season . There the defender was able to work out a regular place in preparation and completed all first round and both cup games ; in the round of 16, however, Fortuna was eliminated from Feyenoord Rotterdam on penalties . In the second half of the season, the German was used in a further eight league games over the full time, in which he scored a goal and provided a template, before the season was prematurely canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic at the end of April 2020. Passlack stood with Sittard on the relegation relegation place, but the league association suspended promotions and relegations.

In the national team

Passlack played six games in the U16 national team in the first half of 2014 . In the second half of the year he made his debut in the U17 national team and qualified with them for the 2015 European Championship in Bulgaria . There he led the team as captain and top scorer (three goals) until the final, which was lost 4-1 to France . In October 2015 he took part in the World Cup in Chile with the U17s and was again captain of the team. During the tournament he scored two goals and was eliminated with the team in the round of 16 against Croatia . In the U18 selection , Passlack was only used twice in March 2016. In September 2016 he was appointed to the U19 team for the first time by DFB trainer Frank Kramer and competed with them in qualifying for the 2017 European Championship in Georgia .
