history

The school was founded in 1927 as a boys 'and girls' middle school before classes began on April 26, 1927. Six years later (1933), the first graduate class was dismissed, at the same time the associated gym on Passstrasse was inaugurated.

After the Second World War , the schools were renamed double-track secondary schools, one for boys and one for girls. In 1952, the boys' and girls' middle school became the municipal boys' secondary school in Bottrop . A year later, the first ski trips took place, which at that time still went to the Sauerland .

In the summer of 1975, specialty subjects were introduced in grades 9 and 10 for the first time . As is still the case today, language , science and social studies could be chosen as the focus . In the linguistic focus only French was offered, in the natural science area biology and in the social studies area social studies could be taken as an elective. 1977 was Urban Boy junior high school in Gustav-Heinemann-Realschule renamed and was again accessible to girls.

A three-week student internship was offered for the first time in 1982 from the 9th grade. With the construction of a kitchen and an IT room in 1983 and 1984, a Koch AG and an IT AG could be offered. The computer room was equipped with two Commodore 64 computers.

With the introduction of Italian lessons in 1990, it was now possible to choose between two foreign languages in the linguistic area (previously only French). In addition, the provision of an additional IT room enabled the focus on information technology to be selected in the same year . At the beginning of the second half of the year, the six-day week will be abolished at the Gustav-Heinemann-Realschule and the five-day week introduced.

building

Shortly after it was founded, it became clear that the new middle school should be built on the premises of the former Agathaschule . Since there was not enough space there, some classes had to be housed in auxiliary barracks. In 1932 the plan came up to convert Marienhospital for school purposes, which was then approved. The move to the Marienhospital took place in 1934, but the building had to be shared with the grammar school, picture office, card office, youth welfare, NSV, SHD, HJ, business school and police. In addition, the Wehrmacht needed a wing for patterning. In 1945 the Rheinische Stahlwerke also moved into the building.

Since there was no more space in the building, the middle school was moved to the Kreuzkampschule . Since there was not enough space there, four additional rooms were made available to the middle school in the Luther school in 1955. In 1956 the Agatha School was rebuilt. After the east and middle wings were completed in 1963, the west wing was completed in 1964 and the boys' secondary school was able to use the premises from then on. The outbuilding at the Luther school was therefore superfluous.

In 1968 the school was rebuilt again, as the increasing number of pupils made space scarce. Classrooms were created in the basement and attic.

The number of pupils continued to rise, so that in 1992 the Luther school was used again as a secondary location. However, as more and more students were attending school, a two-story pavilion had to be built in the schoolyard of the main building in 1997 for a further six classes. In 2000, another pavilion with three classrooms was built in the adjoining building.

Equipment and offers

In the test level (grades 5 and 6), care is taken to enable the students to make a good transition from primary school. The pupils should have as much lessons as possible with the class teacher and are introduced to learning at the Realschule through the subject learning . In addition, a game box is available to the young students, in which u. a. There are table tennis bats, basketballs and footballs that you can use during the breaks. In the 6th grade, a three-day class trip to the surrounding area is organized. At the end of class 6 there is usually a project week.

At the beginning of grade 7, a focus must be selected: a foreign language (Italian or French), social science or scientific-technical (biology, chemistry or computer science). After the Christmas holidays, the 7th grade goes to Imst , Austria for a week of skiing .

In grades 9 and 10, priorities are then set again in the current school year. As a rule, home economics is taught in the 9th school year (4 hours), a three-week internship must be completed, and in many subjects the focus is on vocational preparation. The job information center (BIZ) is also visited. The 10th grade then concentrates primarily on preparing the central final examination . The final trip takes place at the beginning of the 10th grade, foreign countries are preferred.

public relation

Since 1980 the school has had a support association that provides schoolbooks to students who do not have that much money or finances their excursions and class trips.
