With the central exams at the end of grade 10 , also ZP or ZP 10 up to and including 2007, now colloquially called ZAP (Central Final Exam) , the state of North Rhine-Westphalia introduced a new final procedure for the middle school leaving certificate ( Fachoberschulreife ) from the 2006/07 school year. a. All students in the 10th grade at secondary schools (course 10B), secondary schools and comprehensive schools take part, but no longer those at grammar schools since the school year 2010/2011 due to the shortened schooling time.

subjects

The core of the new procedure consists of written exams with centrally placed but decentrally assessed tasks in the subjects German, mathematics and a foreign language (mostly English), whereby the subject English can be replaced by another foreign language subject at the student's request, if this has been done since Class 5 was taught. It should be noted that this is only possible at the comprehensive school. Students from other types of schools must take the exam in English.

Grading

The final grade in each of the three examination subjects should consist of a "preliminary grade" and half of the examination grade. The preliminary mark should be based on the academic performance in class 10. Here is not the second half of the school year reviewed only the first half of the school year will also be assessed. Accordingly, the oral participation of a student throughout the year as well as four written assignments count. In the case of an oral exam, the grade from this exam is assessed together with the grade from the written exam, thus forming the final grade. Of course, the preliminary mark still counts. This is then evaluated in a ratio of 5: 3: 2, with the “preliminary mark” taking up 50% of the mark, the written examination 30% and the oral deviation examination (if available) 20%.

Oral exam

If there is a difference of two grades between the preliminary grade and the written exam grade, the students can opt for an additional voluntary oral exam. If there is a deviation of more than two grades, this is mandatory.

It is “intended to change Section 30 (1) APO-S I before the central examinations at the end of class 10 in 2007 so that the subject teacher in each examination subject should do before the oral exams and not before the written exams sets a preliminary grade and announces it to the pupil. "

Pupils have to decide within a few days after the announcement of the examination grade whether they want to take an oral examination, provided that the difference from the previous grade is two grades.
