Frank Kramer (born May 3, 1972 in Memmingen ) is a German soccer coach and former soccer player .

Life

Frank Kramer was born as the son of Kurt Kramer, secondary school teacher, honorary captain and former player and coach of FC Memmingen . He graduated from high school in Memmingen in 1991 and studied sport and English to become a teacher at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg from 1995 to 2000 . He then completed the two-year extension course "Didactics of German". He then worked as a grammar school teacher and sports lecturer at the Friedrich Alexander University . He completed his training as a football teacher at the Hennes-Weisweiler Academy in Hennef as the best in his year.

He is married and has two children with his wife.

Career

As a player

After Kramer had worked for FC Memmingen , the football club in his hometown, for a year, he switched to FC Bayern Munich at the age of 21 , for whose amateur team he won 2-1 on August 24, 1993 after extra time over SV Darmstadt 98 was used in the 2nd main round of the DFB Cup competition.

In January 1995 he joined TSV Vestenbergsgreuth . In 1996 he moved to SC Weismain . Three years later he was active for the amateur team of 1. FC Nürnberg . In 2001 he moved to the second team at SpVgg Greuther Fürth , and in 2002 to 1. SC Feucht . In 2003 he returned to Fürth and played two more seasons for the second team of SpVgg Greuther Fürth.

As a trainer

Beginning in Fürth and continuing in Hoffenheim

From February to June 2004 and May to June 2005 he was the player- coach of Greuther Fürth's second team. Then Kramer took over the post of U-19 coach for Fürth. In 2009 he was again coach of the second team in Fürth. Two years later he took over the coaching position for the second team at TSG 1899 Hoffenheim . In April 2012, after passing the aptitude test, Kramer was admitted to the 2012/13 DFB football teacher course. Kramer completed this course as the best in his year.

On December 3, 2012, he succeeded Markus Babbel as head coach of TSG 1899 Hoffenheim on an interim basis . In the two remaining games until the end of the first half of the 2012/13 season , TSG Hoffenheim's deficit on the non-relegation places in the Bundesliga under Frank Kramer increased due to a 2-0 away defeat at Hamburger SV and a 3-1 home defeat against Borussia Dortmund to seven points. Then he returned to his position as coach of the second team at Hoffenheim.

On March 12, 2013 Kramer took over the first division eleven of SpVgg Greuther Fürth, which was in last place in the table . He signed a contract that ran until June 30, 2015. In the following second division season , he brought the club to third place in the table, which qualified them for the relegation against Hamburger SV . After a 0-0 win in Hamburg and a 1-1 at home, however, they missed out on the away goals rule . In the 2014/15 season , Kramer was given a leave of absence on February 23, 2015 after the team had only been in mid-table from the third day of the table and only occupied 13th place on the 22nd day. He was replaced by his predecessor Mike Büskens .

Fortuna Dusseldorf

At the beginning of the 2015/16 season he took over the position of head coach at Fortuna Düsseldorf . There he should force a rebuilding of the team after a disappointing season for the club; accordingly high expectations were placed on him. However, the latter did not materialize. In the league, the club achieved only three victories under his direction, so he found himself in the relegation battle. In the DFB Cup, Düsseldorf first prevailed on penalties against the fourth division club Rot-Weiss Essen , only to defeat 1. FC Nürnberg 1: 5 in the next round . On November 23, 2015, he was given leave of absence due to unsuccessfulness; previously the team had only drawn a draw at home against bottom of the table MSV Duisburg .

Bernd Jolitz commented in the Rheinische Post on Kramer's work in Düsseldorf as follows: “It's a bit like in a physics classroom. The lecturer, a recognized specialist, has set up a complicated and impressive test apparatus that his students, the university management and the specialist press look at in amazement. Everyone is ready and confident that the model can cause a stir and solve urgent energy problems - but when the lecturer presses the button, no electricity flows. No light is on, no pointer deflects, and nothing arrives at the end of the apparatus. And nobody knows why. This is where the 'physics model' Fortuna has arrived. The attempt with coach Frank Kramer, his experienced assistant Peter Hermann and a few well-known players who were not in the front row, which looked so promising in theory, simply did not work in practice. "

U19 national team

On August 23, 2016, the DFB sports director Hansi Flick announced that Kramer would be the successor to Guido Streichsbier , coach of the U19 national team .

U20 national team

In the summer of 2017 he became the coach of the U20 national team and took over some of the players from his U19.

U18 national team

From July 2018 to summer 2019, Kramer was responsible for the German U18 juniors .

As a functionary

For the 2019/20 season , Kramer will take over the management of the youth performance center of the Austrian Bundesliga club FC Red Bull Salzburg . He also trains the FC Red Bull Salzburg U19 team in the 2019/20 UEFA Youth League season.
