The TSV Vestenbergsgreuth (completely: Turn- und Sportverein Vestenbergsgreuth eV ) is the local sports club of the Central Franconian market Vestenbergsgreuth . It was founded in 1974 and offers sports in the fields of soccer , tennis and gymnastics . The club's colors are red and white.
The club gained particular fame in 1994. In the first round of the DFB Cup, the Franconian club's first soccer team defeated the then reigning German soccer champions FC Bayern Munich 1-0.
history
So that the football players from the village no longer had to play for clubs in the neighboring villages, 80 citizens of Vestenbergsgreuth decided to found the TSV Vestenbergsgreuth on February 1, 1974 in the Fürstenhöfer inn.
The history of the association is closely linked to a local tea manufacturer who has supported the association financially and personally from the very beginning. Under the leadership of Helmut Hack , the club developed into one of the most successful amateur clubs in Bavaria.
In 1995, Helmut Hack approached Edgar Burkart (then President of SpVgg Fürth) to bundle the strengths of both clubs in order to secure high-quality football in the Fürth region . On October 24, 1995, the general meeting of SpVgg Fürth approved the membership of the TSV football department in SpVgg Fürth. In order to remember the Vestenbergsgreuther roots, the club was renamed SpVgg Greuther Fürth .
In Vestenbergsgreuth the TSV continued to run youth football. In 2007 it was finally decided to provide a new first team for TSV Vestenbergsgreuth. The aim is not to build on the earlier times, but to offer the village and the surrounding area again attractive senior football under the name TSV Vestenbergsgreuth with local players. This was able to achieve first place in the A-class Erlangen / Pegnitzgrund 3 in the first season, rose to the district class and stayed there until relegation in 2018.
Sporting successes
Until the merger with SpVgg Fürth, TSV Vestenbergsgreuth was one of the most successful amateur clubs in Bavaria. Six years after its founding, the club had worked its way up from the lowest division to the then fourth-class Bavarian State League. In 1987 the club rose to the Bavarian League , at that time the highest amateur league. When the Regionalliga Süd was founded in 1994, one of six clubs from Bavaria qualified for the new division.
As runner-up in the Bayern League, TSV Vestenbergsgreuth qualified for the games for the German Amateur Championship in 1988 and 1992 . The first time you participated, you only failed in the semi-finals at VfB Oldenburg . In the second participation, after a defeat against SpVgg Bad Homburg , they were eliminated in the group stage.
In the 1987/88 season, the club entered the main round of the DFB Cup for the first time. After a 4-0 defeat against second division club SV Darmstadt 98 , the team was eliminated from the cup competition in the first round.
The club achieved its greatest sporting sensation in the DFB Cup when it qualified for the main cup for the second time in 1994. On August 14, 1994 Vestenbergsgreuth met the then reigning German champions FC Bayern Munich in the first round . The game had been moved to the Frankenstadion in Nuremberg as a precaution . With a goal from Roland Stein in the 43rd minute, TSV Vestenbergsgreuth surprisingly won 1-0. The club survived the second round of the cup with a 5-1 win against FC 08 Homburg and finally failed in the round of 16 after penalties at the then second division VfL Wolfsburg .
