Edgar Burkart (born April 28, 1944 in Würzburg ; † February 12, 2011 ) was a German football official.

Career

Burkart, who, according to his own statements, saw himself as a fan of SpVgg Fürth since his first game visit in 1951, was department head of the amateur soccer department of SpVgg Fürth from 1975 . As a result, he held various other positions in the club before he was elected president in 1989. Under his leadership, the traditional club returned to the national leagues. Within three years, he was promoted from the regional league to the regional league south . In 1995 he led the club into the merger with TSV Vestenbergsgreuth to SpVgg Greuther Fürth, which paved the way for a return to professional football. Behind Helmut Hack he was Vice President until November 2010.

In 2005 the club mascot "Eddy" was named after him.

At the 2010 general meeting he was made an honorary member for life. He passed away on February 12, 2011 after a long and serious illness.

Among the SpVgg Fürth fans, including the younger ones, Burkart was an icon and veteran, not least because of his decades of loyalty to the club. On his demise, he was honored with a highly regarded memory choreography before a second division game. SpVgg Fürth later recognized him by naming a standing block in the Ronhof Sports Park and also issued a limited series of season tickets with the Burkarts portrait.
