Roland Stein (soccer player)

Roland Stein (born January 19, 1973 in Strullendorf ) is a former German soccer player .

In the mid-1990s he was under contract with the regional division TSV Vestenbergsgreuth . He is known for having played a key role in Vestenbergsgreuth's victory over the then reigning German champions FC Bayern Munich in the first main round of the DFB Cup on August 14, 1994 . Stein scored the first and only goal of the game in the 43rd minute. Later on, Stein and his club even reached the round of 16 and only narrowly failed on penalties against the eventual finalists VfL Wolfsburg .

His hit went down in the history of the DFB Cup . At the opening of the DFB Cup “Walk of Fame” in May 2014 in front of the Berlin Olympic Stadium , he was among the first 13 players to be included.

In 1997, Stein moved to Wacker Burghausen , who also played in the Regionalliga Süd. For the 2001/02 season he moved to the second division promoted 1. FC Schweinfurt 05 , for which he played 7 professional games. After two more positions at 1. FC Sand and SV Pettstadt, he ended his career in 2008.
