Benedikt Gimber (born February 19, 1997 in Buchen ) is a German football player who is under contract with SSV Jahn Regensburg .

Career

society

Gimber started playing football at TSV Sulzbach together with Simon Lorenz . He then moved to SV Schefflenz . Gimber went through the youth teams of TSG 1899 Hoffenheim from 2009 . For the 2015/16 season he signed his first professional contract with a term until June 30, 2019 and moved up to the professional squad. Gimber was used in the second team in the fourth-class Regionalliga Südwest and in the A-Youth in the A-Junior Bundesliga .

In order to gain match practice, the central defender was loaned to SV Sandhausen in the 2nd Bundesliga for the 2016/17 season. There he was only used for the second team, so the loan ended early on January 31, 2017 and Gimber was loaned to Karlsruher SC until June 2018 . There he came on for his first professional appearance on matchday 20 when he was substituted on for Moritz Stoppelkamp in the second minute of stoppage time in the 2-1 defeat against TSV 1860 Munich . After KSC was relegated to the 3rd division , the loan ended prematurely.

For the 2017/18 season , Gimber was loaned out to second division promoted SSV Jahn Regensburg . There he scored his first professional goal in a 3-2 home win against Arminia Bielefeld on December 16, 2017 (18th matchday) , making it 1-1.

For the 2018/19 season, Gimber moved within the 2nd Bundesliga to FC Ingolstadt 04 , with whom he signed a contract that ran until June 30, 2021. With Ingolstadt he lost the relegation against SV Wehen Wiesbaden at the end of the season and was relegated to the 3rd division.

As a result, he only played once in the state cup for Upper Bavaria and returned to his former loan club Jahn Regensburg on matchday five of the second division season 2019/20 . The Upper Palatinate equipped the defender with a contract valid until June 2023.

National team

Gimber has played for all German U-national teams so far. He led the German U17 national team as captain in the European Championship in Malta in 2014 , played all games, but failed in the preliminary round. With the German U19 he reached 5th place at the European Championships in his own country in 2016, also as captain. Most recently, Gimber was captain of the German U20 national team . With this he took part in the U20 World Cup in 2017 , in which Germany failed to Zambia in the round of 16 with 3: 4 a.s. Gimber was on the field in all four games played.
