Mersad Selimbegović (born April 29, 1982 in Rogatica ) is a former Bosnian-Herzegovinian football player and today's coach.
Career
Selimbegović played until the 2005/06 season in Bosnia-Herzegovina, where he was used by the local record champions FK Željezničar Sarajevo . For the 2006/07 season he was brought by coach Günter Güttler to SSV Jahn Regensburg, who had just been relegated to the Bayern League . There the trained central defender immediately gained a regular place next to captain Dennis Grassow and contributed to an immediate promotion to the regional league in 30 season appearances . In 2008 he qualified with SSV Jahn for the newly created 3rd league .
The following years were marked by long breaks from injuries. In the first two years in German professional football, he played just under half of the season's games, in the 2010/11 season he had played nine games when, among other things, muscular problems and back problems put him permanently out of action from November 2010. He did not return to the team this season or the next. In 2012 Regensburg rose to the 2nd Bundesliga after a successful relegation without his participation . At the end of the season, his contract ran out, after 99 games in the shirt of the Upper Palatinate, Selimbegović ended his active career.
From the 2012/13 season he was assistant coach of the second team of SSV Jahn in the Bayernliga for four years, while he also got his coaching license. In the 2016/17 season he was the coach of the Regensburg youth team. After being promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga in 2017, Selimbegović moved to the first team's coaching staff as assistant coach under Achim Beierlorzer . In January 2019 he successfully completed his training as a football teacher.
For the 2019/20 season he became head coach of SSV Jahn as the successor to Beierlorzer, who had left the club at the end of the season. His contract runs until 2021.
