Marco Grote (born October 11, 1972 in Bremen ) is a former German soccer player and today's soccer coach . Since July 22, 2020, he has been the head coach of the second division VfL Osnabrück .

Career as a football player

Marco Grote, who had played at SV Werder Bremen up to the A youth, was under contract with FC Bremerhaven and VfB Oldenburg before he switched to the second team of Hamburger SV . During his playing career Grote came as a right-back to 147 appearances in the Regionalliga Nord , in which he scored four goals. With the FC Bremerhaven the native Bremer participated in the 1996/97 season to the DFB cup part in which the Bremerhavener in the first round against the Bundesliga Karlsruhe SC were eliminated. With the second team of HSV, Marco Grote also played in the season "Hamburg / Schleswig-Holstein" in the Oberliga Nord , where he played 65 games and scored ten goals.

Career as a coach

Beginnings

After Marco Grote was first assistant coach of the second team at HSV and then worked on the staff of VfB Lübeck - he was assistant coach under Stefan Böger - he went to the SV Werder Bremen youth academy in 2008. In his hometown Grote looked after the U16, U17 and U19. Marco Grote led the U17s to the final of the B-Junior Bundesliga . Grote received his football instructor license in 2010 after completing the 56th coaching course at the Hennes-Weisweiler Academy .

VfL Osnabrück

On July 22, 2020, he took over the position of head coach at the second division club VfL Osnabrück , where he signed a two-year contract as the successor to Daniel Thioune, who had switched to HSV .
