Lukas Josef Gugganig (born February 14, 1995 in Spittal an der Drau ) is an Austrian football player . The defender is under contract with VfL Osnabrück in the German 2nd Bundesliga .
Career
Gugganig started in 2002 in the offspring of the lower class SC Mühldorf, a club near Spittal / Drau. From there he moved to the FC Red Bull Salzburg academy in 2009 . After promotion in the 2012/13 season, he was transferred to FC Liefering, the Salzburg team's unofficial farm team . He made his debut in the Austrian Bundesliga on April 12, 2015 in a 3: 3 away match against SK Rapid Vienna , when he was used in the last half hour. For the 2015/16 season he moved to the German second division club FSV Frankfurt, where he signed a two-year contract.
After relegating to the 3rd division with Frankfurt, he moved to SpVgg Greuther Fürth in summer 2016. His contract, which expired in summer 2019, was not extended in spring, for which he played 51 second division games.
For the 2019/20 season, the Austrian stayed in the second division, but signed a two-year contract with newly promoted VfL Osnabrück .
National team
Lukas Gugganig played a total of six international matches for the Austrian youth national teams from U16 to U19. With the U19 national team, he qualified for the 2014 European Championship in Hungary. His strong performances led to a call-up to the Austrian U21 team .
