Uwe Koschinat (born September 1, 1971 in Koblenz ) is a former German soccer player and today's coach . Since October 2018 he has been the head coach of SV Sandhausen .

Career

As a player

He played his first competitive games as a professional in 1992 in the promotion games to the 2nd Bundesliga , which he completed as a promoted team with VfL Wolfsburg . In the following season he played for Wolfsburg in the second division, where the 1.78 m tall defender could not prevail. From the 1993/94 season he played for TuS Koblenz in the upper and regional leagues. In 2002 he moved to FV Engers 07 for a year before ending his career at TuS Koblenz in 2004.

As a trainer

After his active career, he first worked as an assistant trainer at TuS Koblenz from 2006. In December 2009 he briefly took over the management of the team as an interim coach after Uwe Rapolder's dismissal . After Petrik Sander was appointed, he was again an assistant coach. In the spring of 2011 he completed his trainer training with the acquisition of a trainer license at the Sport University Cologne together with u. a. Roger Schmidt , Sami Hyypiä , Thomas Schneider , and Markus Gisdol successfully. In the summer of the same year he moved to SC Fortuna Köln as head coach. His appointment was approved by 74.83% of the club's members as part of the DeinFußballclub.de project . In the 2012/13 season he immediately won the runner-up in the West Regional Football League with his new club and also won the final of the Middle Rhine Cup against Alemannia Aachen 2-1 on May 29, 2013 . As a result, the Cologne team qualified for the first main round in the DFB Cup , in which Koschinat's team met Bundesliga club FSV Mainz 05 in August 2013 . There they beat each other respectably and were only barely defeated 1: 2.

In the 2013/14 season, Fortuna Cologne finally became champions of the Regionalliga West. In the two playoffs for promotion to the 3rd division , they just beat the champions of the Regionalliga Bayern , the second team of FC Bayern Munich , with a 1-0 home win and a 1-2 away defeat. On January 12, 2018 it was announced that Koschinat's contract with Fortuna Cologne had been extended ahead of schedule.

On October 15, 2018, however, Koschinat's contract with Fortuna was terminated at his own request. On the same day, the second division club SV Sandhausen introduced him as the new head coach and provided him with a contract until 2020. After the SVS had finished the first half of the 2019/20 season on a "historic" ninth place, Koschinat received a contract extension until June 2022.
