Petrik Sander (born November 17, 1960 in Quedlinburg ) is a German former soccer player and today's soccer coach . He was best known for his work at Energie Cottbus .

Club career

In the early years of his career, he played his first GDR league games at Energie Cottbus . However, the club's management only wanted to assign him one of the scarce apartments if he would marry his girlfriend at the time (and today's wife). However, Sander wanted to determine the time of his wedding himself and therefore left the association. Back in his home country he played in the district league for Motor Quedlinburg. From 1987 to 1991 he played again for Energie Cottbus. His other stations as a player were Motor Nordhausen and ASG Vorwärts Cottbus Süd. He played a total of 80 games (27 goals) in the GDR league and 87 appearances (43 goals) in the GDR league .

Coaching career

Petrik Sander began his coaching career with the amateurs of FC Energie Cottbus before becoming assistant coach with the professionals in 1997. On November 23, 2004, he finally took over the position of head coach at FC Energie after Eduard Geyer was given leave of absence due to unsuccessfulness. He prevented relegation to the regional league with only one goal difference. On April 1, 2005, in the 86th minute of the game between FC Erzgebirge Aue and FC Energie Cottbus (Aue led 2-0) next to Sander, a rocket that was shot off by a Cottbus fan outside the stadium exploded. The game was about to be canceled, but was continued until the regular end after an interruption. Sander has had hearing loss in his right ear since then.

On January 27, 2006, Petrik Sander extended his contract prematurely until 2008. In May 2006 he managed to return to the first division with Cottbus and a year later he reached the first division with his team three game days before the end of the season. However, after only two of 18 possible points at the beginning of the 2007/08 season and table position 18, the dismissal Sanders was announced on September 23, 2007. In addition to the lack of sporting success, differences with President Ulrich Lepsch also led to Sander's dismissal.

In November 2008, Sander took over the post of head coach at third division VfR Aalen , who was in 13th place in the table at the time. He thus succeeded Jürgen Kohler, who had resigned as a trainer for health reasons . After two defeats against direct competitors, the VfR was in a relegation zone four game days before the end of the season. Sander then submitted his resignation together with sports director Jürgen Kohler.

On December 27, 2009 he became the head coach of the second division TuS Koblenz , which he was supposed to keep from relegation to the third division , which however did not succeed. Nonetheless, Petrik Sander received a new contract with TuS Koblenz to tackle the rebuilding in League 3. He signed a contract in May 2010 until the end of the 2010/2011 season. Due to the financial difficulties the club withdrew from the 3rd division after the end of the 2010/2011 season. Sander then stated that he would not sign a new contract in Koblenz.

On November 7, 2011, FC Carl Zeiss Jena , which is in acute danger of relegation in the third division, announced that Sander had been signed as the new coach. Sander received a contract valid until June 30, 2012, which is extended for another year to June 2013 in the event of relegation. Despite the missed relegation and relegation to the regional league, Sander received a new contract for a year until June 2013 and should establish the club in the top tier of the regional league. At the end of May 2013, his contract was extended for a further year until summer 2014, but he was released from this again in August 2013 and released from service.

In December 2014 Sander was again trainer at TuS Koblenz . After team boss Evangelos Nessos was released, Sander was presented as the new coach. Sander remained in office even after TuS Koblenz was relegated to the Oberliga Rheinland-Pfalz / Saar and immediately led Koblenz to the Oberliga championship in 2016 and thus back to the regional league. After the club slipped to 17th place in the Regionalliga Südwest after two defeats at the start of 2018, Sander was dismissed on February 11, 2018. Since February 28, 2019, Sander has been head coach at the Saxon regional league club FSV Budissa Bautzen , which he left after relegation in summer 2019.

In July 2020 1. FC Magdeburg hired Petrik Sander as a coach for the A Juniors.
