Timo Schultz (born August 26, 1977 in Wittmund ) is a former German soccer player and today's coach . He has been employed by FC St. Pauli since 2005 and has been the head coach of the professional team since July 2020.

Career as a player

Schultz began his career at TuS Esens in his East Frisian hometown. He played for Werder Bremen until 2000 . From 2000 to 2002 he played for VfB Lübeck . Then he played for six months for the Harburger TB 1865 . From January 2003 to 2005 he worked for Holstein Kiel . He was even sorted out into the 2nd team by the then coach Frank Neubarth . Due to massive protests by the Holstein fans, he returned to the first team and was able to repay the trust with goals. Nevertheless, he moved to FC St. Pauli in the Regionalliga Nord for the 2005/06 season . Initially he was only intended for the second team, but he quickly established himself in the first team and was significantly involved in promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga in the 2006/07 season , as well as in relegation in the following season. At the end of the 2009/2010 season, Schultz even rose to the 1st Bundesliga with FC St. Pauli.

In May 2010 he extended his contract for a further year until June 30, 2011. On September 25, 2010 he made his debut in the 1st Bundesliga when he was substituted on in the 83rd minute of the home game against Borussia Dortmund .

After his professional contract expired on June 30, 2011, Schultz signed a new amateur contract until June 30, 2012 with FC St. Pauli. At the same time he became the team's assistant coach. After the end of his career as a player, the Lower Saxony remained with the club as a coach.

Career as a coach

Schultz began his coaching career in the 2011/12 season as a playing assistant coach to Jörn Großkopf in the second team (U23) of FC St. Pauli .

For the 2012/13 season Schultz was assistant coach of André Schubert for the second division team . Until December 2014 he also assisted the following head coaches Michael Frontzeck , Roland Vrabec and Thomas Meggle . In mid-December 2014, Schultz switched to the junior performance center as head coach when Ewald Lienen was signed . In February 2015 he took over the B1-Juniors (U17), who played in the B-Junioren-Bundesliga , as head coach. As of June 2017, Schultz took part in the 64th DFB football teacher training course , which he successfully completed in March 2018. For the 2018/19 season , Schulz took over the A-Juniors (U19) in the A-Juniors Bundesliga .

For the 2020/21 season , Schultz took over the second division team as the successor to Jos Luhukay , from whom the club had separated after 14th place in the previous season. He signed a contract until June 30, 2022.
