2nd Bundesliga 2006/07

The 2006/07 season of the Regionalliga was the 13th season of the Regionalliga as the third highest division in German football. It was played in two regional seasons - North and South. 19 teams played in the North season, the South season had a team strength of 18.

The champions and runners-up in the North and South seasons went straight to the 2nd Bundesliga .

North

The Regionalliga Nord season started on August 4, 2006 and ended on June 2, 2007. The relegated from the 2nd Bundesliga were Dynamo Dresden and Rot Weiss Ahlen , the promoted from the Oberliga were 1. FC Union Berlin , Borussia Dortmund II , Borussia Mönchengladbach II , SV Wilhelmshaven and 1. FC Magdeburg .

Season overview

The FC St. Pauli and VfL Osnabrück promoted to the 2. Bundesliga on. Holstein Kiel , Borussia Mönchengladbach II , Bayer Leverkusen II , Hertha BSC II and SV Wilhelmshaven were relegated to the top division .

With a 2-2 draw on the penultimate matchday against Dynamo Dresden, FC St. Pauli was promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga. On the last day of the match, VfL Osnabrück overtook FC Magdeburg through a goal by Thomas Reichenberger in the 89th minute to make it 2-1 against Rot Weiss Ahlen and took second place in the table.

The relegation of the second teams from Borussia Mönchengladbach , Bayer Leverkusen and Hertha BSC , as well as SV Wilhelmshaven were already certain. The last relegated to the league was looked for on the last day of the long distance duel between Borussia Dortmund II and Holstein Kiel . Dortmund won 2-0 in the end, so the 1-0 victory of Kiel was not enough to keep the league.

The 2006/07 season of the Regionalliga Süd started on August 4, 2006 and ended on June 2, 2007. The relegated from the 2nd Bundesliga are Sportfreunde Siegen and 1. FC Saarbrücken and the promoted from the Oberliga are FK Pirmasens , KSV Hessen Kassel , SSV Reutlingen and FC Ingolstadt 04 .

The SV Wehen and TSG Hoffenheim promoted to the 2. Bundesliga on. The 1. FC Saarbrücken , SV Darmstadt 98 , FK Pirmasens and the 1. FC Kaiserslautern II promoted to the Oberliga from.

The SV Wehen and TSG Hoffenheim both went for the first time in the 2. Bundesliga on. Already on the 29th (labor) and 30th matchday (Hoffenheim) the promotions were made clear.
