Thomas Reichenberger (born October 14, 1974 in Bad Kreuznach ) is a former German soccer player .

career

Thomas Reichenberger is the son of the Munich soccer professional Max Reichenberger . He attended the Lina-Hilger-Gymnasium in Bad Kreuznach. He began his career at Eintracht Bad Kreuznach , where he learned to play football in the youth department, and joined the amateur team at Bayer 04 Leverkusen in 1997 through a brief stint at Hassia Bingen and SV Wehen . In 1998 Thomas Reichenberger made his Bundesliga debut against SC Freiburg . At the beginning of 2000 he moved to Eintracht Frankfurt and at the beginning of 2002 to Energie Cottbus .

He then played one season for KFC Uerdingen 05 before finally moving to VfL Osnabrück for the 2004/2005 season. There he felt at home and developed into a leading player and crowd favorite. With the exception of last year, he was always the top goalscorer of his team in every season and was top scorer of the Regionalliga Nord in the 2005/06 and 2006/07 seasons. On February 16, 2007 Thomas Reichenberger scored a hat trick in a point game against Rot-Weiß Erfurt in the Regionalliga Nord within the first 14 minutes . In 2007 and 2010 he was promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga with VfL . After six years with VfL, he ended his career as a professional footballer at the end of the 2009/10 season.

In total, Thomas Reichenberger played 85 Bundesliga games (twelve goals), 72 second division games (22 goals) and 144 third division games (63 goals). He has a follow-up contract for a position in the areas of marketing, public relations and sponsorship support at VfL Osnabrück. At the same time he was a member of the VfL second team. After his time as a team manager at VfL, he founded a sports agency in early 2014. In addition to running children's soccer camps, his sports agency also organizes and markets events related to (professional) soccer.

Reichenberger is also a poker player . In 2007 he qualified for the World Series of Poker , but decided not to participate in order not to miss the pre-season in football. In the wake of the 2009 betting scandal, he became the focus of investigators because he occasionally bet on football matches and his name had been mentioned by suspects during telephone surveillance. Questionable and untrue allegations in some media reports brought him into the public eye. He then gave a declaration of honor in front of the television cameras and the stadium microphone before a third division game and protested his innocence. In the further course there were no indications that Reichenberger was involved in the betting scandal. A preliminary investigation that was initiated later came to the conclusion that Reichenberger was not involved in the betting scandal.
