The 2020/21 season of the Regionalliga will be the 13th season of the Regional Football League as the fourth-highest division in Germany. Four teams have been promoted to the 3rd division since the 2018/19 season. This season, the champions of the Southwest, West and Northeast regional leagues each have a direct climber. The champions of the Regionalliga Bayern and Regionalliga Nord play in a promotion play-off for the fourth promotion place.
Regional leagues
- Regionalliga Bayern 2019–21 with 18 or 17 teams from the Bavarian Football Association (BFV)
- Regionalliga Nord 2020/21 with 22 teams (in two regional groups) from the North German Football Association (NFV)
- Regionalliga Nordost 2020/21 with 20 teams from the Northeast German Football Association (NOFV)
- Regionalliga Südwest 2020/21 with 22 teams from the Football Regional Association Southwest and the South German Football Association (SFV) with the exception of the Bavarian Football Association
- Regionalliga West 2020/21 with 21 teams from the West German Football Association (WDFV)
Promotion Games
The best teams eligible for promotion from the regional leagues Bavaria and North take part in the promotion games to the 3rd division . The winner after the first and second leg is promoted.
If teams do not participate, or if no team from a regional league qualifies athletically, byes will be awarded.
