On the 5th matchday of the 2013/14 season he scored his first goal in professional football at the home game of VfR against 1. FC Kaiserslautern .
For the 2014/15 season , Buballa moved to FC St. Pauli . In the match against VfL Bochum in the second division season 2016/17 , Buballa clashed with opposing goalkeeper Manuel Riemann and suffered a traumatic brain injury , whereupon he was out for a long time and lost his regular place.
