Roland Vrabec [ ˈvra.bɛt͡s ] (born March 6, 1974 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German football coach .

Life

Vrabec played as a youth at the Frankfurt district association SpVgg 05 Oberrad and as a senior in amateur status at SG Croatia Frankfurt . With his club he played in the then Landesliga Hessen-Süd and the then Oberliga Hessen . He ended his active career at the age of 26 in order to devote himself to further training as a sports scientist with a focus on sports medicine and training theory / training science. Vrabec studied from 2000 at the Institute for Psychology and Sports Science (IFS) of the Goethe University in Frankfurt . He completed his training at the Hennes-Weisweiler Academy in Hennef .

Trainer

Vrabec's previous coaching stations from 2001 were initially in the youth division of FSV Frankfurt , 1. FSV Mainz 05 and an assistant in the senior division at 1. FC Lokomotive Leipzig (2012 to 2013). From 2011 to 2013 he was assistant coach of the U-18 teams at the DFB in cooperation with Christian Ziege and Horst Hrubesch .

From summer 2013 he worked as an assistant coach at FC St. Pauli. On November 6, 2013, he switched to the role of head coach at FC St. Pauli as a former assistant coach at the side of Michael Frontzeck after his leave of absence . He was supposed to lead the team in the 2nd Bundesliga until the winter break of the 2013/14 season. This was seen as a steep coaching career for a "nameless" player and coach in German professional football and was due to the philosophy and financial planning of the FC St. Pauli club. At the beginning of the 2013/14 winter break, he extended his contract as head coach until June 30, 2015. After the team got off to a weak start in the 2014/15 season, he was given leave of absence on September 3, 2014 as the coach of FC St. Pauli.

In January 2015 Vrabec became Markus Babbel's assistant coach at FC Luzern in the Swiss Super League . On February 22, 2016, he was given immediate leave from FC Luzern. For the 2016/17 season he became the new coach at the third division club FSV Frankfurt .

On his 43rd birthday, the FSV Frankfurt released him immediately. About two weeks later he was signed by FC Vaduz . His contract was terminated at the beginning of September 2018.

On June 12, 2019, Vrabec was introduced as the new trainer of Progrès Niederkorn .
