The Spielvereinigung 05 Frankfurt-Oberrad, Spvgg 05 Oberrad for short , is a sports club from the southeastern Frankfurt district of Oberrad . In addition to the football department , the game association also has a tennis department .

history

In 1905 the “Sportverein 05 Oberrad” was created through the merger of “Viktoria Oberrad”, “Kickers Oberrad” and “Sportclub Hellas”. The club got its current name in 1933 through the merger with the “Ballspielclub Oberrad”, which was decided and watered at a founding meeting in the inn “Zum Wilden Mann”. Football has always been in the foreground in the club. Attempts to establish the sports of hockey and handball were soon discontinued. At the end of the 1930s, the team was promoted to the district class, which was then the second highest level below the Gauligen . In 1943, after Oberrad was almost completely destroyed by bombing, sports activities practically came to a standstill.

After the Second World War , the sports clubs were initially dissolved and re-establishment under the old name was prohibited. Instead, a “sports community” should unite all former clubs from all sports under one roof in the Frankfurt districts. So in the summer of 1945 the "Sportgemeinschaft Oberrad" was created. But it was already possible to return to the old name in 1946. The Spvgg resumed gaming with two senior and one school team.

The development with a focus on youth work was continued at Spvgg Oberrad in the post-war period. A women's team was formed in 1971 and a tennis department was launched in October 1976. The high point of this development was reached in the mid-1970s, when four senior and 19 youth teams were active at Spvgg. The first team played in the state league and the first A-youth in the top division, the state performance class. This “high-altitude flight” lasted into the 1990s. Like many other amateur clubs, the Spvgg also had to contend with falling audience interest and competing sports. The first team was relegated from the regional league and the youth teams had to leave the higher divisions.

This sporty bottom is now behind the game association. The first team returned to the Landesliga Hessen (today Association League Hessen ) in 2004 and played in the football Hessenliga from the 2014/15 season . After two years, however, the club rose again from the association league Hessen-Süd and was finally passed through to the group league Frankfurt. In the 2018/19 season under ex-professional Baldo di Gregorio the promotion to the Association League Hessen-Süd was missed, for the 2019/20 season Gültekin Cagritekin (Türkgücü Friedberg) took over the coaching position in Oberrad.

More teams

The second team was relegated to the district league A Frankfurt in the 2013/14 season. The club has a total of 23 teams of all ages this season.

A women's team was formed in 1971 and the first female school team was formed three years later. SpVgg 05 Oberrad is the oldest still active women's soccer team in Frankfurt. Between 1999 and 2010, the soccer players formed a syndicate with SG Riederwald. The women's team was reactivated in 2013, and the players were promoted to the Frankfurt women's district league after the first season. Under the coaching duo André Carlos Winter and Christian Zimmermann, the promotion to the group league was achieved for the 2018/19 season. In addition, the Oberräder women are record cup winners in the Frankfurt am Main district with four titles.

The club's youth soccer department is the largest in the Rhine-Main area with 18 teams and around 350 active members . The older age groups play in the higher classes of the Hessian football association.
