Wilfried Straub

Wilfried Straub (born March 26, 1939 in Egelsbach-Bayerseich ; † May 2, 2016 ) was a German football official. He was Vice President of the German Football Association , to which he had been involved since 1972. In addition, Straub was executive chairman of the League Association ( DFL ) until May 2005 .

Career

Wilfried Straub began his career in 1968 as a department head at the German Football Association (DFB). A year later he became DFB league secretary and held this position for over 21 years until 1991. For the next ten years he was head of the then DFB directorate for league marketing, economics / finance .

In 2001, Straub became Vice President of the DFB. He coordinated the cooperation between the DFB central administration and the DFL . He was also responsible for the DFB club cup and represented the DFB internationally in coordination with the president and the league president. Together with Wolfgang Holzhäuser , he introduced the Bundesliga licensing system. His areas of responsibility also included the performance centers of the Bundesliga and the 2nd Bundesliga , the implementation of the basic contract and international club competitions.

Straub was on the Supervisory Board of the World Cup Organizing Committee (OK) for the 2006 World Cup . He was responsible for the coordination between the OC and the league association.

Wilfried Straub received an award for his life's work during the award ceremony of the “ISPO Sports Sponsoring Congress” in 2005. At the end of the 2004/05 Bundesliga season , Straub withdrew from operational business and was then available to the German Football League as a consultant. Wilfried Straub was a member of the Board of Trustees of the Bundesliga Foundation and an honorary member of the German Football Association.

In his last year in office as managing director of the DFL, Straub took part in the negotiations with ProSiebenSat.1 Media AG about the allocation of television rights. He signaled a clear no to a Club World Cup and advocated another term for Werner Hackmann as the league boss.
