Wolfgang Holzhäuser (born January 13, 1950 in Crumstadt ) was spokesman for the management of Bayer 04 Leverkusen Fußball GmbH from 2004 to 2013 .

Life

The graduate in business administration from Crumstadt in Hesse was involved in the founding of the German Football League GmbH and the League Association. He worked for the German Football Association in Frankfurt am Main for 23 years . Most recently as a league secretary, the trained wholesaler was responsible for the organization and handling of licensed football. The introduction of corporations in professional football, which he constantly called for, combined with the so-called 50 + 1 clause, also fell during this period.

Since 2004 he has been Vice President of the League Association and the DFB and, in 2007, provisional President of the League Association. He was involved in the introduction and implementation of the licensing process at the DFB. Later, at the League Association and the DFL, he was, among other things, concerned with the control of the economic performance of the licensing clubs, as well as active in several national committees, such as B. in the finance committee, AK national team, AK betting, the statutes and structure committee. Together with Werner Hackmann , he was instrumental in driving the ultimately successful spin-off of paid football from the German Football Association and the establishment of the league association with its operating subsidiary, the DFL.

In the summer of 1998 Wolfgang Holzhäuser became commercial director at Bayer 04 Leverkusen. During this time, parts of the sports club TSV Bayer 04 Leverkusen were converted into Bayer 04 Leverkusen Fußball GmbH , which was independent of the former parent club , and was completed on April 1, 1999. Since June 2004, he has been the sole managing director and spokesman for the management team, succeeding Reiner Calmund . On May 14, 2013, Holzhäuser announced that it would give up his position as managing director on September 30, 2013. Michael Schade was his successor . After leaving the management of Bayer 04 Leverkusen, he was appointed to the shareholder committee of Bayer 04 Leverkusen Fußball GmbH, of which he was a member until the end of July 2017. The clubs of the Bundesliga and the 2nd Bundesliga elected him an honorary member of the league association in 2013. Wolfgang Holzhäuser is currently working as a freelance columnist and sports consultant.

Wolfgang Holzhäuser is married and has one son.
