Michael Schade (football official)

Michael Schade (born December 22, 1952 in Solingen ) is a former German businessman . From October 2013 to June 2018 he was the spokesman for the management of Bayer 04 Leverkusen Fußball GmbH and is now a member of its shareholders' committee.

Schade is the son of track and field athlete Herbert Schade , who won the bronze medal in the 5000-meter run at the Olympic Games in Helsinki in 1952 .

Professional background

Schade studied sports at the Sports University in Cologne and then worked for several years as a sports journalist and reporter. In 1980 he joined the Bayer Group as Head of Publications and held this position until 1994 when he was appointed Head of Corporate Policy. After he was also responsible for the press department at Bayer AG from 1997, he was appointed Executive Vice President Global Corporate Communications in 2008 . In addition, from 2007 to 2013 he was a member of the shareholders' committee of the soccer company Bayer 04 Leverkusen Fußball GmbH for the first time.

After Wolfgang Holzhäuser announced in May 2013 that he would be leaving his post as Managing Director of Bayer 04 Leverkusen on September 30, 2013, Schade was appointed sole Managing Director on October 1. His contract ran until the end of June 2018.

Personal

Schade is the son of Herbert Schade , who was one of the world's best in long-distance running in the 1950s. He grew up in his native Solingen . After the father started working for the city, the family moved into an official apartment in the Schaberg district on the site of a sports facility that today bears the name of Schade's father. He is married, has two children and lives with his family in Solingen. He also headed the Solingen Athletics Club for twelve years .
