Tracy Byrd
Tracy Byrd (born December 18, 1966 in Vidor , Texas ) is an American country singer who has sold over four million albums during his career. Between 1992 and 2006 he had 33 hits on the US country charts.
Life
Tracy Byrd grew up in a family home where he came into contact with country music almost every day. He made his first public appearance in a talent competition. Encouraged by the positive reaction from the audience, he tried to gain a foothold in the music business. He initially earned his living with odd jobs. In the evenings he performed in local clubs.
He finally managed to get a permanent engagement at a club in Beaumont , where the then unknown Mark Chesnutt also played. When Chesnutt finished his stint, Byrd took his place. He put together his own band, the "Only Way to Fly".
Career
In 1992, Byrd received a record deal from MCA . After two moderately successful singles, he reached number one on the country charts in 1993 with Holdin 'Heaven . The album No Ordinary Man , released in the same year, sold more than two million copies and went double-platinum. The single Keeper of the Stars was named Song of the Year at the 1995 Academy of Country Music Awards and was also nominated for a CMA Award .
Until the end of the decade, more successful singles and albums were produced at short intervals. A few times he was even able to place himself in the pop charts. In 1999 he switched to the RCA label . There he had his second number one hit in 2001 with Ten Rounds with José Cuervo .
Byrd is counted among the New Traditionalists who brought a breath of fresh air to the stagnant country scene from Texas in the early 1990s. His sincere-looking style, rooted in honky tonk , made him very popular.
