Steffen Baumgart (born January 5, 1972 in Rostock ) is a German soccer coach and former player .

Career as a player

From 1988 to 1991 Baumgart played for SG Dynamo Schwerin . With the Schwerin team he reached the final of the FDGB Cup against Dynamo Dresden , but lost 2-1 with his teammates Andreas Reinke and Matthias Stammann . After German reunification , Baumgart moved to SpVg Aurich . There he played as a contract amateur and did an automotive training.

The 1.78 m tall center forward then began his professional career in 1995 at Hansa Rostock . Overall, he played six years with one break at FC Hansa and scored 32 goals. In 2002 he went to 1. FC Union Berlin , for which he played for two years and whose team captain he became. With FC Union he rose in the 2003/04 season as penultimate from the 2nd Bundesliga .

After relegation, he stayed in the 2nd Bundesliga and moved to Energie Cottbus on a free transfer . With the team he secured relegation in his first season and rose in the following season with the Lausitzers in the 1st Bundesliga. In the first season after promotion he held the class with Energie Cottbus. On January 3, 2008, his contract was terminated at the end of the season. On January 22nd he was signed by 1. FC Magdeburg . The FCM hoped to qualify for the new 3rd division with the experienced professional . Since the qualification was missed and the subsequent contract negotiations did not lead to an agreement, Baumgart moved to SV Germania 90 Schöneiche . In the 2010/11 season Baumgart played for SV Woltersdorf in the regional class East in Brandenburg.

Baumgart scored 29 goals in 225 Bundesliga games . He played 142 times in the 2nd Bundesliga and scored 36 goals.

Career as a coach

On 31 March 2009 Steffen Baumgart was presented as the new coach of 1. FC Magdeburg after under predecessor Paul Linz the desired goal for the season of the FCM, the rise in the 3. He then coached the relegation-threatened Berlin district league club SSV Köpenick-Oberspree from 2014 . Then in July 2015 he became coach of the regional league team Berliner AK 07 , with whom he finished second in the Regionalliga Nordost at the end of the season, only separated from the season winner FSV Zwickau by a difference of one goal . On April 16, 2017 Baumgart was presented as the new coach of SC Paderborn 07 . In the remaining 5 games of the 2016/17 season, Baumgart scored 11 points with SC Paderborn, but could not prevent the sporting relegation to the regional league. Despite being relegated, Baumgart extended his contract term until mid-2018. Since TSV 1860 Munich, as a relegated second division, did not meet the requirements for third division approval, SC Paderborn finally stayed in the third division. In the 2017/18 season Baumgart reached 2nd place with SC Paderborn and thus direct promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga . This season, SC Paderborn achieved a record in the 3rd division with 90 goals. Baumgart's contract period was extended on January 18, 2018 to the end of June 2020. In 2017 and 2018, Baumgart won the Westphalia Cup with SC Paderborn . On 19 May 2019 he went to the SCP 07 as runners in the 2. Bundesliga for the second time in club history in the Bundesliga on. Shortly before the start of the 2019/20 season , Baumgart's contract term was extended to 2021.
