Matthias Stammann (born May 8, 1968 in Schwerin ) is a former German professional footballer . In his active career he played 83 Bundesliga games and 62 second division games at Bayer 04 Leverkusen and VfL Wolfsburg, among others .

Career

Stammann's career in the men's division began with SG Dynamo Schwerin in the 1985/86 season . Before that he was trained between 1980 and 1984 in the junior division of the series champion Berliner FC Dynamo . With the team from his hometown operating under the name PSV Schwerin during the period of change, he reached the final of the FDGB Cup with the later Bundesliga players Andreas Reinke and Steffen Baumgart , in which they were defeated 1: 2 by the champions Dynamo Dresden . He moved to Bayer 04 Leverkusen in the summer of 1990 . His debut in the Bundesliga took place on the 23rd match day for Leverkusen against Stuttgart . He then played 40 more games in the Werkself jersey. Since he only played once in Leverkusen in the 1993/94 season right at the start of the season, he was loaned to SC Fortuna Köln in the 2nd Bundesliga for a year . Here he played fifteen games. After six months he moved to Dynamo Dresden for the 1994/95 season. Here he played fifteen games in the Bundesliga, where he remained without a goal. For the 1995/96 season he moved to VfL Wolfsburg . In two years he played 47 times and rose to the Bundesliga in 1997 with the "Wölfen".

From 1997 to 1999 he played 27 games for VfL. He made his last game on February 19, 1999 against Hansa Rostock . He was replaced here after an injury in the 44th minute of the game. After the end of his professional career, he became a youth coach at VfL Wolfsburg.
