Career

Adolescent years

Michel began playing football in the Freudenberg district of Alchen in the youth team of the local TuS Alchen, from which the national player Patrick Helmes also emerged . He then played for the youth team of Fortuna Freudenberg and Borussia Dortmund for a year in the U-14s before joining Sportfreunde Siegen for the first time . He then played for the Siegen district club SuS Niederschelden . There he was already active in the club's A youth team from at least the beginning of the 2007/08 season and contributed to the youth team's promotion to the district league in 2009.

SuS Niederschelden, Sportfreunde Siegen and Borussia Mönchengladbach

For the Niederscheldener he was then active in the state league until the end of the 2009/10 season . With the team from the south of Siegen, he was relegated from the bottom of the table, but had at least six personal goals. For the following season he moved again to Sportfreunde Siegen. There he first played in the second team, also playing in the national league, already played the second half of the preparation for the 2010/11 season with the first team coached by Andrzej Rudy and was finally moved up to the first team in May 2011. In addition, at the end of the national league season of the Landesliga Westfalen Staffel 2 Süd , he ranked third on the list of goalscorers with 15 goals. In the winners, the striker was also extremely accurate in the NRW League team. He scored eleven times in the opposing goal in 34 appearances in the 2011/12 NRW League season . After he had already scored 14 goals in 20 games in Regionalliga West in the 2012/13 season by the turn of the year , he moved to Bundesliga club Borussia Mönchengladbach at the beginning of 2013 for a rumored transfer fee of 70,000 euros and signed a contract until June 30, 2015 There, however, he was initially scheduled primarily for the second Borussia team, which was in the same league as the Siegener and was in a relegation battle at the time. At Borussia he made his debut on February 2, 2013 in the home game against VfB Hüls and scored the 3-2 winner. At the end of the second half of the 2012/13 season, in which he scored six times in 15 league appearances for Borussia, Michel was finally the top scorer in the Regionalliga West with a total of 20 goals. After he again met six times in 19 league appearances for Gladbach in the following season until the turn of the year 2013/14, but had not been able to move up into the Bundesliga team by then, he joined the second division Energie Cottbus .

Debut in professional football

On January 7, 2014, he signed a contract with Cottbus until the end of the 2015/16 season. On February 16, 2014, he made his debut in the game against VfR Aalen when he was substituted on by Stephan Schmidt in the 84th minute for Fanol Perdedaj . Right on his first appearance he scored the 2-2 equalizer in stoppage time and thus his first goal in the 2nd Bundesliga , which also brought about the final score of the game. In his second appearance on February 21, 2014, he was substituted at half time and prepared both Cottbus goals in the 2-3 defeat of his team against Erzgebirge Aue . On February 28, 2014, he was in the starting line-up for the first time against 1. FC Kaiserslautern and scored the decisive 1-0 result. By the end of the season he played 14 second division games, in which he scored two goals. In the 2014/15 season he joined the team in the third division after the Cottbus relegation . He made 29 league games in which he scored eight goals. In the 2015/16 season he was used 23 times (two goals) in the 3rd division. After the Cottbus relegation to the Regionalliga, Michel's move to SC Paderborn 07 was announced at the end of May 2016 . In Paderborn he quickly became a regular player. In terms of sport, he would have been relegated from the third division with Paderborn despite his five goals scored at the end of the 2016/17 season; However, since second division relegated TSV 1860 Munich had not received a license for the 3rd division, Paderborn benefited from this and was still able to compete in the 3rd division the following season. In this, Michel only missed a single game. With 19 scored and 13 prepared goals, he was the top scorer of the 3rd division and thus made a significant contribution to Paderborn being second in the table in the 2nd Bundesliga. In the DFB Cup he defeated the higher-class clubs FC St. Pauli , VfL Bochum and FC Ingolstadt with Paderborn this season and only failed in the quarter-finals at Bayern Munich . In the following season 2018/19 Michel played 26 games in the 2nd Bundesliga for Paderborn, in which he scored ten goals. Again he reached the quarter-finals in the DFB Cup with Paderborn and rose to runner-up at the end of the season. On matchday 1 of the following 2019/20 season, he made his debut for Paderborn in the 3-2 defeat against Bayer 04 Leverkusen in the 1st Bundesliga and scored his first Bundesliga goal.
