Marcel Correia (born May 16, 1989 in Kaiserslautern , Germany ) is a Portuguese soccer player who has played for SC Paderborn since 2020 .

Correia was born as the son of Portuguese immigrants in Kaiserslautern, but does not have German citizenship. He began his football career at 1. FC Kaiserslautern , for which his father was still active in the third team at the time.

Career

From the 2007/08 season Correia was an integral part of the reserve team of the FCK. From 2009 he was also part of the professional squad, but did not play a competitive game. For the 2011/12 season , the central defender left Kaiserslautern free of charge and signed a contract with the second division promoted Eintracht Braunschweig until June 30, 2013 . At the end of the 2012/13 season he rose with Braunschweig to the Bundesliga , in which he made his debut on August 10, 2013 (1st matchday) in the 0-1 defeat at home against Werder Bremen . From 2015 to 2017 Correia was the captain of Eintracht. His contract in Braunschweig was not renewed after the end of the 2016/17 season. For the 2017/18 season, Correia returned to his hometown of Kaiserslautern, where he received a contract with FCK that runs until 2020. However, since Kaiserslautern was relegated after the 2017/18 season, he signed a two-year contract with SSV Jahn Regensburg at the end of June because his contract with Kaiserslautern did not apply to the 3rd division .

In August 2020 he moved to SC Paderborn 07 .
