The DFB-Pokal 2017/18 was the 75th edition of the men's soccer cup competition. The final took place on May 19, 2018 and, as has been the case since 1985, was held in the Berlin Olympic Stadium.

Eintracht Frankfurt won 3-1 against FC Bayern Munich and qualified for the group stage of the 2018/19 UEFA Europa League .

Innovations

From the quarter-finals onwards, the video assistant was introduced as an additional aid for the referees . This has been used in the Bundesliga since the beginning of the season . As in the Bundesliga, not all controversial scenes were rated by the video assistant, but only those that involved possible goals, red cards (but not yellow-red cards ), penalties or mix-ups. In addition, there had to be a clear and obvious wrong decision. The images from the stadiums were normally transmitted via fiber optic cables to the video assistance center in Cologne . Because these cables were only available in the stadiums of the Bundesliga clubs , a van solution with mobile video assistant technology had to be used for the quarter-finals at SC Paderborn , which did not play in the Bundesliga. For the first time, the video assistant was not far from the game in Cologne, but directly at the stadium. At the finals in Berlin there were decisive and therefore controversial video decisions.

Furthermore, as since 2008 , no two teams from a club or a corporation were allowed to take part in the games for the DFB club cup.

Round of 16

The round of 16 was drawn on October 29, 2017. The former professional soccer player Stefan Effenberg acted as “ticket fairy”, and DFB Vice President Peter Frymuth as the draw manager .

The round of 16 was drawn from a lottery pot, the team drawn first received home rights. The exception to this was SC Paderborn 07 , which, due to its membership in the 3rd league, would have received home rights regardless of the position at the time of the draw.

The drawn games took place on December 19 and 20, 2017.

Quarter finals

The quarter-finals were drawn on January 7, 2018. The matches were drawn by the former national handball player Oliver Roggisch , who is now the team manager of the German national handball team . The DFB sports director Horst Hrubesch acted as the draw manager .
