Marco Jhonfai Fabián de la Mora (born July 21, 1989 in Guadalajara , Jalisco ) is a Mexican football player . The attacking midfielder is under contract with al-Sadd SC in Qatar and plays for the Mexican national team .

family

Fabián's father is the former soccer player Marco Antonio Fabián Vázquez (* 1964).

Career

Fabián made his debut in the Mexican Primera División on November 10, 2007 in a home game of his team against the Jaguares de Chiapas , which the hosts decided 5-4 in their favor. In the period that followed, he was occasionally deployed and finally made it into the starting eleven. Since then he has played numerous games in the Mexican league, the Copa Libertadores and the Copa Sudamericana .

For the entire calendar year 2014, Fabián was loaned to CD Cruz Azul . With seven goals in 13 regular league games, he contributed to reaching the first place in the table in the regular season in the Clausura 2014 . In the subsequent Liguillas he failed with his team at the later champions Club León .

On January 1, 2016, Fabián moved to the German Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt . He signed a contract that ran until June 30, 2019. On January 24, 2016, he made his Bundesliga debut in the home game against VfL Wolfsburg and prepared the goal for Alex Meier to make it 3-2 . Fabián scored his first goal on September 17, 2016 in a 2-1 home win against Bayer 04 Leverkusen . In May 2018 he won the DFB Cup with Eintracht after beating FC Bayern Munich 3-1 in the final . Together with his teammate Carlos Salcedo , Fabián was the first Mexican DFB Cup winner. In August 2018, Fabián was removed from the squad by the new coach Adi Hütter, along with six other players, and transferred to a separate training group. His shirt number 10 was given to the newcomer Filip Kostić ; Fabián got the 38 instead . A move to Fenerbahçe Istanbul failed at the end of August. At the beginning of September 2018, Fabián was reintegrated into team training together with the other four players who had not found a new club by the end of the transfer period. However, he was not registered for the UEFA Europa League . In the following Bundesliga match, Fabián was in the starting line-up with the number 7 on his shirt , which had since become vacant due to the departure of Danny Blum .

In February 2019, Fabián moved to Philadelphia Union in Major League Soccer . He scored eight goals in 25 games for the franchise and reached the semi-finals of the MLS Cup with him. He then left the club.

In early February 2020, the Mexican joined the Qatari first division club al-Sadd SC, which was trained by Xavi .

National team

Fabián was nominated for the CONCACAF Gold Cup 2011 and won the tournament with Mexico without being used. On January 25, 2012 he came in a 3-1 win against Venezuela for his first appearance for the Mexican national soccer team .

In the summer of 2012 he took part with the Olympic team in the Olympic Games in London , where Mexico won the gold medal for the first time. He was used in all six games and scored the 1: 1 goal in the semi-finals against Japan (final score 3: 1). For Mexico this was the only gold medal in London.

At the 2014 World Cup , Fabián contributed to Mexico's entry into the round of 16 with appearances in all three Group A games .

Fabián also took part in the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup in Russia, where his goal for the interim 3-1 in the semi-finals against Germany (final score 4-1 for Germany) was chosen as the goal of the tournament.
