Branimir Hrgota (born January 12, 1993 in Zenica , Bosnia and Herzegovina ) is a Swedish football player . The striker is under contract with the German second division team SpVgg Greuther Fürth .

childhood

Hrgota was born to Croatian parents in Zenica, Bosnia . When he was one year old, his parents fled to Sweden with himself and his older sister before the Bosnian War .

Beginnings in Sweden

Hrgota learned to play football at IK Tord in Jönköping . In 2008 he then moved to the youth department of city rivals and second division Jönköpings Södra IF . At the beginning of the 2011 season he made the leap into the first team, signed a contract until October 30, 2012 and was quickly able to earn a regular place. In total, he scored 18 goals in 25 games and was the top scorer of the 2011 season.

Borussia Monchengladbach

During the summer break of 2012, Hrgota signed a contract with the German Bundesliga club Borussia Mönchengladbach, dated until the end of June 2016 . On August 25, 2012 (1st matchday) he made his debut in a 2-1 home win against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim when he came on for Mike Hanke in the 74th minute . Eintracht Frankfurt

For the 2016/17 season , Hrgota moved to league competitor Eintracht Frankfurt , with whom he signed a three-year contract. In May 2018 he won the DFB Cup with Eintracht after beating FC Bayern Munich 3-1 in the final . In August 2018, Hrgota was removed from the squad by the new coach Adi Hütter, along with six other players, and transferred to a separate training group. His shirt number 31 was given to the newcomer Kevin Trapp ; Instead, Hrgota received 34 . At the beginning of September 2018, he was reintegrated into team training together with the other four players who had not found a new club by the end of the transfer period. However, Hrgota was not registered for the UEFA Europa League . On October 19, 2018, Hrgota was back in a competitive game in a 7-1 win against Fortuna Düsseldorf after being substituted on shortly before the end of the game. This was his only league use this season. Hrgota left the club at the end of the season with the expiry of his contract.

Greuther Fuerth

After the second match day of the 2019/20 season, the Swede moved to the 2nd Bundesliga for SpVgg Greuther Fürth , where he received a contract that ran until June 2021.

National team

Hrgota played for the U18 , the U19 and U21 youth national teams of the Swedish Football Association . He completed a total of 28 games for the youth teams and scored six goals. In October 2012, the Croatian U21 national coach Ivo Šušak made contact with the aim of nominating Hrgotas. Hrgota's agent denied a decision for the Croatian national teams.

Hrgota made his debut for the Swedish senior team on September 4, 2014 in a 2-0 win in the international test match against Estonia .
