Gaćinović moved in 2010 from the Bosnian-Herzegovinian club FK Leotar Trebinje to the youth of the Serbian club FK Vojvodina . There he moved up in 2013 to the first team that plays in the SuperLiga , the top division in Serbian football. On March 19, 2013, he came in a 3-0 home win against FK Donji Srem for his first appearance, when he was substituted two minutes before the end of the game. By the end of the season Gaćinović was four more times on the field and scored his first competitive goal on May 18, 2013 in a 3-2 win against FK Radnički Niš . In the 2013/14 season Gaćinović won the Serbian Cup with the club by beating FK Jagodina in the final , although he was not used in the competition. In the league, the Serb played 20 times and finished third in the final table with Vojvodina. In the following season 2014/15 he was the top scorer of his team with 11 league goals in 25 appearances and took third place on the scorers list. From relegation to cup victory in Frankfurt

For the 2015/16 season Gaćinović moved to the German Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt , with whom he signed a four-year contract. The change was handled by an “investment fund” that had acquired the transfer rights through the Cypriot association Apollon Limassol . On November 28, 2015 Gaćinović made his debut under coach Armin Veh in the 1: 2 away defeat against 1. FSV Mainz 05 in the Bundesliga. In a weak Eintracht season, the Serb made four more appearances under Veh, who was released as head coach in March 2016. Frankfurt's new coach Niko Kovač then built on Gaćinović more often and put him into the starting line-up twice in the remaining games; Frankfurt won both games 2-1 and saved themselves in the relegation against 1. FC Nürnberg . There he met in the first leg to the 1-1 final score and prepared the decisive goal for the 1-0 final score by Haris Seferović in the second leg , whereby the unity of the relegation succeeded. In the 2016/17 season , Gaćinović scored his first Bundesliga goal on November 5, 2016 with the 1-0 winning goal in the home game against 1. FC Köln . He was on the field a total of 28 times in the league and was featured in all 6 games of his team in the DFB Cup , which reached the final against Borussia Dortmund and lost 2-1. In the 2017/18 season , Kovač also relied on the Serbs, who made 29 Bundesliga appearances and finished eighth in the final table with Eintracht. In the cup, Gaćinović played his way back into the final with the Frankfurters , in which he helped his team to win their first title in 30 years by scoring a 3-1 final against Bayern Munich . With this success, the team qualified for the group stage of the Europa League , in which Gaćinović was called up by new coach Adi Hütter in every game from the start and secured a place in the round of 32 with his team as group winners . In December 2018 Gaćinović extended his contract with Eintracht early until 2022. In the second half of the season, after victories against Shakhtar Donetsk , Inter Milan and Benfica Lisbon , the team advanced to the semi-finals and failed there on penalties at Chelsea ; the Serb was used in every game. In the Bundesliga he was called up 29 times in the 2018/19 season and was on the field for the full 90 minutes in the first round of the DFB Cup when he lost 2-1 to SSV Ulm 1846 . In the 2019/20 season , Gaćinović was regularly used at Eintracht and reached the semi-finals of the DFB Cup and the second round of the Europa League with her . He was a crowd favorite among Frankfurt fans.

Change to Hoffenheim

For the 2020/21 season, Gaćinović switched to TSG 1899 Hoffenheim in exchange with Steven Zuber within the Bundesliga . He signed a contract with the Kraichgauer until 2024.

National team

Gaćinović played four games for the U17 national team of the Bosnian-Herzegovinian Football Association in 2010 . He then changed associations and played for the U18 team of the Serbian Football Association . With the U19 selection , he took part twice in the U19 European Championship . With the team he reached the semi-finals in Lithuania in 2013 and won the title in Hungary in 2014 . On November 13, 2014 Gaćinović made his debut in the 0-1 defeat against the U21 team of Romania in the U20 selection . In June 2015 he won the U20 World Cup in New Zealand as captain with the team . On October 7, 2015 Gaćinović made his debut in the U21 national team , which won the international match against the U21 national team of Andorra 5-0.

On March 24, 2017, Gaćinović played for the senior national team for the first time in the World Cup qualifier in Georgia and scored the goal to make it 3-1. He was nominated for the 2018 World Cup in Russia , but was removed from the Serbian World Cup squad on June 1, 2018 by national coach Mladen Krstajić .
