Ilay Eliyau Elmkies ( Hebrew עילי אלמקייס, Born March 10, 2000 in Nahariya ) is an Israeli soccer player . The midfielder is under contract with TSG 1899 Hoffenheim and is an Israeli national player.

Career

society

Elmkies was trained in his home country by Beitar Naharija and Maccabi Haifa and came to Germany at the age of 15 . There he played briefly at SV Sinsheim before he was accepted into the TSG 1899 Hoffenheim junior performance center . With the A-youth of the club, the Israeli reached the final round of the championship in the 2017/18 season as the winner of the Bundesliga season south / southwest, where it was defeated by FC Schalke 04 . In the junior cup the semi-finals were reached, where TSG lost 5-0 to 1. FC Kaiserslautern .

In the following season, the Hoffenheim A-Jugend reached the semi-finals in the UEFA Youth League with Elmkies , but had to admit defeat to FC Porto . From March 2019 he was more often in the regional league team and made his first appearances in the men's area. The Israeli was allowed to complete the preparation for the 2019/20 Bundesliga season with the professionals and was then a regular player in the second team's squad. National team

After playing for four Israeli junior national teams, Elmkies made his first appearances for Israel's A-selection as part of the qualification for the European Championship 2021 before his professional debut at club level under national coach Andreas Herzog at the end of 2019 . The team missed the finals of the competition as the group penultimate.

Personal

Elmkies came to Germany from Israel with his father David. He attended the Albert Schweitzer School in Sinsheim until 2019 , where he obtained his secondary school leaving certificate. Elmkies worked as a speaker and performer on the film project Zachor: Remember! With.
