Sebastian Hoeneß (born May 12, 1982 in Munich ) is a former German soccer player and today's soccer coach . He is the son of Dieter Hoeneß and the nephew of Uli Hoeneß . He has been the head coach of Bundesliga club TSG 1899 Hoffenheim since July 2020 .
Player career
Hoeneß was born in Munich and started playing football at TSV Ottobrunn in the area surrounding the Bavarian capital. Up to the age of 17 he was trained in the youth department of VfB Stuttgart .
Then Hertha BSC signed him , for whose second team the midfielder completed over 160 low-class league games in ten seasons, scoring 29 goals. He took part in the 2004/05 season with the team in the DFB-Pokal competition, which was eliminated in the first main round against FC Schalke 04 . In the 2006/07 season he was active three times for TSG Hoffenheim in the Regionalliga Süd and five times for their second team in the Oberliga Baden-Württemberg . In the 2007/08 season he played again for the Hertha BSC second team. In the summer of 2010 he ended his active football career.
Coaching career
After his playing career, he became a football teacher and initially looked after the A youth team at Hertha 03 Zehlendorf from 2011 to 2013 and from 2014 to 2017 youth teams at RB Leipzig . From summer 2017 to 2020 he was employed by FC Bayern Munich . After two years as principal in charge of the A-youth team of the club he took over for the season 2019/20 the post of head coach of the 3. Liga ascended second team of Holger Seitz , the Bayern Munich was changed to the command staff of the Youth Department. The team won the championship.
For the 2020/21 season , Hoeneß succeeded Alfred Schreuder as head coach of TSG 1899 Hoffenheim , for which he had already played as a player. He signed a contract with the Bundesliga club until June 30, 2023.
