Benjamin Huebner (born July 4, 1989 in Wiesbaden ) is a German soccer player .

Career

Benjamin Hübner joined the SV Wehen at the age of four, where his father worked and his older brother Christopher also played. After his youth, he moved up to the second team of the club in the Oberliga Hessen at the age of 18 , where he was used several times in the second half of the 2007/08 season . In his fifth game, he was sent off with red and had to take a break for several weeks. After his return, he not only played the full distance in the second on Saturdays, but also sat on the bench with the first team in the 2nd Bundesliga the next day . He then made his professional debut on the 34th matchday of the 2007/08 season when he was substituted on in stoppage time in the game against SC Freiburg . In the following year he was already a regular in the second team that had qualified for the new Regionalliga Süd, and was back in the first team. So he came in the 2008/09 season , at the end of which the Wehen were relegated to the 3rd division , on 17 appearances in the first team, ten of them over the full season. His breakthrough as a regular in the first team came after relegation in the new third division season 2009/10, he defended this status in the following seasons. After the 2011/12 season he was accepted by the sports magazine kicker with a grade average of 2.88 in the "kicker top eleven of the 3rd division".

After a total of almost 19 years at the club, Hübner did not extend his contract with the Wehen family, which was running out, in the summer of 2012. He moved to the 2012/13 season for VfR Aalen , who had ascended to the 2. Bundesliga.

For the 2014/15 season , Hübner moved to FC Ingolstadt 04 within the second division . After the team's first promotion to the Bundesliga , he made his debut on August 15, 2015 (1st matchday) in a 1-0 win in the away game against 1. FSV Mainz 05 in this division. On February 20, 2016 (22nd matchday), Hübner scored his first Bundesliga goal in a 2-0 home win against SV Werder Bremen .

In the 2016/17 season , Hübner moved to TSG 1899 Hoffenheim . His contract runs until 2022. Hübner played his first competitive game for Hoffenheim in October 2016 against his former club FC Ingolstadt . Hübner developed into an important pillar of the team in the 3 defense chain under coach Julian Nagelsmann and became an undisputed regular player. The first season at TSG Hoffenheim ended in fourth place in the table, which entitles them to qualify for the UEFA Champions League .

Despite two defeats in qualifying for the UEFA Champions League 2017/18 against FC Liverpool and the early exit in the group stage of the UEFA Europa League 2017/18 was the season 2017/18 for Hoffenheim a very successful. With a 3-1 win over Borussia Dortmund on the last matchday, the team secured third place in the table for direct participation in the UEFA Champions League . Hübner scored 4 goals in 31 competitive games during the season, the qualifying game against Liverpool FC in August 2017 being his first competitive game in an international football competition.

The preparation for the new 2018/19 season began for Hübner with a serious injury. He got a ball on his head at the training camp and was out for several months due to a severe concussion. He only played his first competitive game of the season against VfL Wolfsburg in December 2018 . Due to further minor injuries, Hübner made only 11 competitive appearances in the season, one of them in the UEFA Champions League . TSG Hoffenheim lost their participation in the UEFA Europa League on the last match day with a 2: 4 defeat against 1. FSV Mainz 05 and ended the season in ninth place in the table.

Under the new head coach Alfred Schreuder , who replaced Julian Nagelsmann who had moved to Leipzig , Hübner was again an important performance and leadership player in the 2019/20 season . After internal disputes with the new coach, the previous captain Kevin Vogt resigned from his position in December 2019. On December 21, 2019, Hübner was appointed the new team captain of TSG 1899 Hoffenheim by Alfred Schreuder . Hoffenheim finished the season in sixth place in the table and qualified again for the UEFA Europa League.
