Alfred Schreuder (born November 2, 1972 in Barneveld , Netherlands ) is a former Dutch soccer player and current coach .

Career

As a player

Schreuder's professional career began at Feyenoord Rotterdam with a single Eredivisie assignment in the 1991/92 season. After he failed to come back to Feyenoord in the following season, the midfielder moved to RKC Waalwijk . Here he became a regular player and scored seven goals in 119 appearances in four seasons. In 1997 he went to NAC Breda , which he was loyal to for six seasons - one of them in the second division . From 2003 he played again at Feyenoord, interrupted by a season (2004/05), which he spent again in Waalwijk.

In the 2005/06 season he was only used twice in Rotterdam; his football career was overshadowed and interrupted by private misfortune when his daughter became seriously ill and died in March 2006 of complications from a brain tumor . After his return to the football field, an ankle injury threw him back, so that he only came to five missions in the following season. In May 2007, the 34-year-old went to FC Twente, where he began training as a coach on the side. For the 2008/09 season he moved to Vitesse Arnheim , where he ended his active career after six missions during the winter break. In total, Schreuder played 338 games in the Eredivisie and 32 in the Eerste Divisie as a professional .

As a trainer

During the winter break of the 2008/09 season, Schreuder ended his playing career at Vitesse Arnheim and became assistant coach to Theo Bos .

In the summer of 2009 he went back to Enschede as one of Steve McClaren's assistants , his contract was extended under McClaren's successor Michel Preud'homme and ran until 2014. After the European Championship in 2012 he was also assistant coach of Bert van Marwijk for the Dutch national team become. Since Louis van Gaal was the new bond coach after the European Championship , he did not take the position.

On February 26, 2013, he took over the interim coaching position at FC Twente after Steve McClaren had resigned. Since Schreuder had no coaching license for the Eredivisie, Michel Jansen was hired as a coach for the 2013/14 season ; Schreuder stepped back into the second row. After acquiring his coaching license, Schreuder was head coach at FC Twente from July 2014 to August 2015.

At the end of October 2015, Schreuder became Huub Stevens' assistant trainer at TSG 1899 Hoffenheim . From February 2016 he assisted his successor Julian Nagelsmann .

At the beginning of January 2018, Schreuder moved to Ajax Amsterdam and became Erik ten Hag's assistant coach . As part of the coaching team, he won the cup and championship double with the capital city team, and the team also reached the semi-finals of the Champions League .

For the season 2019/20 returned Schreuder for TSG 1899 Hoffenheim back, succeeding by Julian Nagel man as head coach. He signed a contract until June 30, 2022. His brother Dick was his assistant. On June 9, 2020, Schreuder and the association agreed on the immediate termination of the contract. As a reason, the association stated "differences about the direction of the club and the further common path". At this point in time, after the 30th matchday of the 2019/20 season, the team was in 7th place with 43 points. With him, his brother Dick left the club.

For the 2020/21 season , Schreuder was co-coach of his compatriot Ronald Koeman at FC Barcelona together with Henrik Larsson .
