Florian Kohfeldt (born October 5, 1982 in Siegen ) is a German football coach . He is the head coach at Werder Bremen .

Life

Kohfeldt moved to Delmenhorst at the age of four and graduated from the Max-Planck-Gymnasium in 2002 . He began playing football at TV Jahn Delmenhorst , for whom he was active as a goalkeeper up to the A-youth . He then moved to the Bremen League for Werder Bremen's U-21 team , which was then looked after by Viktor Skripnik . Since Kohfeldt did not have enough talent for a career as a professional footballer , he began studying sports and health sciences at the University of Bremen , which he completed in 2013 with the academic degree Master of Arts . At the same time, he has coached various Werder Bremen youth teams since 2006. In 2015 he finished his DFB training as a soccer teacher at the Hennes-Weisweiler Academy as the best in his year.

From 2014 to 2016 Kohfeldt was assistant coach under Viktor Skripnik, who had been promoted to head coach of the Bundesliga team. In October 2016 he became the coach of Werder's U-23 team, which played in the third division , with whom he was relegated. After Alexander Nouri was released , Kohfeldt rose on October 30, 2017 to become the head coach of the first division team, who had no win after ten match days and were in penultimate place in the table. His first Bundesliga game as a coach was the 1: 2 away defeat at Eintracht Frankfurt on November 3, 2017. A week later he was promoted to head coach of the team at Werder Bremen until at least the end of the year. In mid-December 2017, Werder's managing director Frank Baumann announced that he would continue the collaboration with Kohfeldt as head coach. At the beginning of April 2018, the association finally signed a contract with him that ran until 2021. At the end of the 2017/18 season , Werder took eleventh place with him as head coach and remained unbeaten in all 12 home games. At the end of the 2018/19 season Werder landed in eighth place and only just missed the international places.

His contract with Werder runs until 2023.
