Tahith Chong (born December 4, 1999 in Willemstad , Curaçao , Netherlands Antilles ) is a Dutch football player who has been under contract with Werder Bremen as a loan player from Manchester United since mid-August 2020 .

Youth in Rotterdam and Manchester

Chong started playing football at the age of 10 in the youth department of Feyenoord Rotterdam and by the age of 16 had already aroused interest in several Premier League clubs . Discovered by Manchester United scouts in September 2014 , he was signed for the 2016/17 season. Chong played 14 times in his first season for the U18s in the U18 Premier League and scored 3 goals. In the 2017/18 season he made 6 more appearances in the U18s (4 goals) and 2 appearances for the U19s in the UEFA Youth League . In addition, from January 2018 the winger played 8 times for the U23 in the Premier League 2 , scoring 3 goals.

First professional experience

In July 2018, he was named to the first team by José Mourinho during a preparatory tournament in the USA . He came to inserts in test matches u. a. against Liverpool FC and Bayern Munich . On October 23, 2018, he was part of the squad for the first time in the second game of Group H , in the 0-1 Champions League defeat of his team against Juventus Turin . After the appointment of Ole Gunnar Solskjær as the new head coach of the club, he was part of the first team in the Premier League for the first time on January 2, 2019 (21st matchday) in a 2-0 win in the away game against Newcastle United . He made his professional football debut three days later when he came on as a substitute in the 2-0 third round win in the FA Cup against Reading FC during the second half. His Premier League debut followed in March 2019. In the 2018/19 season, the winger always played as a substitute for the professional team twice in the Premier League, once in the Champions League and once in the FA Cup. He also played 17 times (all appearances from the start) for the U23s (6 goals) and 6 times (2 goals) for the U19s in the UEFA Youth League .

Also in the 2019/20 season , Chong was part of Ole Gunnar Solskjær's professional squad . However, he only played 3 games as a substitute in the Premier League. There were also 2 more appearances in the FA Cup (once from the beginning), a starting eleven nomination in the EFL Cup and 6 appearances (2 times from the beginning) in the Europa League . The Dutchman also played 6 times for the U23 and scored 5 goals. In March 2020, Chong extended his contract to June 30, 2022.

Loan to Werder Bremen

For the 2020/21 season, Chong moved to Werder Bremen on loan for a year in the Bundesliga .

National team

After playing in the youth national teams of the Netherlands from 2014 onwards, he made his debut on November 16, 2018 in the U21 national team , which lost 3-0 in the friendly against Germany's U21 national team in Offenbach .
