Maximilian Eggestein (2018)

Maximilian Eggestein learned to play football at TSV Schloß Ricklingen and then switched to TSV Havelse , for which he played until 2011 and for whom his father Karl Eggestein had already laced his shoes. He has been with Werder Bremen since 2011. In the 2012/13 season he landed with the Werderaner youth B team with 14 goals in fifth place on the top scorer list. For the 2014/15 season he moved up to Werder's second team in the Regionalliga Nord , where he was able to assert himself as a regular in the attacking midfield right away.

His consistently good performance meant that he was appointed to the Bundesliga for the first time on November 29, 2014 (13th matchday) . In the 4-0 home win against SC Paderborn 07 Eggestein was brought on by coach Viktor Skripnik in the 83rd minute for Levent Ayçiçek . His commitment at the age of 17 years and 356 days made him the second youngest Bundesliga player in the club's history behind Thomas Schaaf (17 years and 353 days). With the 2nd team he became champion and rose with her after successful promotion games in the 3rd division. At the end of February 2015, Eggestein received its first professional contract with a term until June 30, 2018.

Initially, however, he was unable to establish himself in the Bundesliga team. In the 2015/16 season he only made two appearances in the starting XI as a playmaker . In October 2016, Skripnik's successor Alexander Nouri reassigned him to the U23 team. Coach Florian Kohfeldt named him captain there. After good performances, Eggestein returned to the professional team during the winter break. He is mainly used there as a defensive midfielder . In the home win against FC Schalke 04 on April 4, 2017, the 27th matchday of the 2016/17 season, he scored his first Bundesliga goal to make it 3-0. In July 2017, he extended his current contract until the end of the 2019/20 season. Eggestein made 33 appearances in the 2017/18 Bundesliga season and was the player with the most kilometers with 383 km. On October 20, 2018, the 8th matchday of the 2018/19 season, he scored both goals in the 2-0 away win against FC Schalke 04 and scored twice in the Bundesliga for the first time. At the end of this season he had a total of five goals in 34 appearances and, like last year, was the player with the most kilometers (409 km) in the Bundesliga.

On April 10, 2019, Eggestein extended its contract in Bremen, which was valid until 2020, ahead of schedule.

National team

Eggestein played six times for the German U20s , with whom he won the friendly four-nation tournament Elite Cup in autumn 2015 . With the U21 he won the group in qualifying for the European Championship 2019 .

Eggestein was nominated for the senior national team for the first time for the friendly against Serbia on the 20th and the EM 2020 qualifier against the Netherlands on March 24, 2019 .
