Romano Schmid (born January 27, 2000 in Graz ) is an Austrian football player . The midfielder is under contract with Werder Bremen in Germany . In addition, he has been playing for the ÖFB's junior national teams since the U15 .
Career
society
Schmid began his career at USV Vasoldsberg . In 2009 he moved to SK Sturm Graz . After playing in the academy before, he made his debut for Sturm amateurs in the Regionalliga in March 2016 when he started against Annabichler SV on matchday 17 of the 2015/16 season .
Schmid moved up to the professional squad for the 2016/17 season. He finally made his Bundesliga debut in May 2017 when he came on as a substitute for Fabian Koch in the 75th minute against Wolfsberger AC on match day 36 of that season . Through that commitment Schmid became the first player in the Bundesliga to be born after January 1, 2000.
With his goal to mean 3-1 in the 3-2 win in July 2017 against FK Austria Wien , he also became the first player to score in the Bundesliga who was born after January 1, 2000.
In August 2017 he moved to league competitor FC Red Bull Salzburg , with whom he received a contract valid until June 2020. However, he should initially be used for the second-rate farm team FC Liefering . In the season 2017/18 he came again for FC Red Bull Salzburg in the Bundesliga and 22 times (eight goals) for FC Liefering in the second class First League (since 2018 2. League ) are used. He also played with the FC Red Bull Salzburg U-19 team in the UEFA Youth League . In the 2018/19 season , Schmidt made six appearances for FC Liefering, in which he scored one goal.
At the beginning of January 2019, Schmid moved to the German Bundesliga club Werder Bremen . Since he had to clear formalities regarding his draft to the military , he did not immediately join the training. Werder Bremen also announced that they want to loan him out directly for 18 months. In February 2019 he was finally awarded for half a year to the Austrian Bundesliga club Wolfsberger AC , with whom he was able to qualify for the group stage of the Europa League as third in the championship group . Following the season, the midfielder stayed in Wolfsberg after extending his loan contract for another year. With the club, Schmid, who is often considered in the central midfield, was the last of the Europa League group J to leave. In the year and a half on loan, he made 37 appearances in the Bundesliga for the Carinthians, in which he scored three goals.
For the 2020/21 season , Schmid finally joined Florian Kohfeldt's Bremen Bundesliga squad .

Schmid played for an Austrian national youth team for the first time in November 2014. In September 2015 he booked his first appearance for the U16 team . In March 2016 he made his debut against Iceland for Austria's U17 team . In April 2017 he played for the U18 team for the first time .
In August 2017 he made his debut against Norway for the U19 team . He scored his first goal for them in a friendly against Cyprus in August 2018 . In March 2019 he played against Norway for the U20 for the first time .
In September 2019 he made his debut against Andorra for the U21 team .
