Stefanos Kapino ( Greek Στέφανος Καπίνο , born March 18, 1994 in Athens ) is a Greek football goalkeeper . He is under contract with Werder Bremen and is a Greek international .

Career

Stefanos Kapino began his career at Aetos Korydallou in Piraeus. In June 2007 he moved to the youth department of Panathinaikos Athens . After four years in the club's U-18 and U-21 team, in which he was always a regular player, he received his first professional contract of his career in 2011 and was promoted to the Panathinaikos men's team. After the departure of national goalkeeper Alexandros Tzorvas and the injury of the first substitute goalkeeper Stefanos Kotsolis, Kapino moved on September 17, 2011 for the first time for a competitive game in the 18-man squad of his team. In this encounter against Atromitos Athens goalkeeper Orestis Karnezis was sent off in the third minute and Kapino made his first competitive appearance for Panathinaikos. Since then, Kapino, who originally started as the fourth election, has been the youngest goalkeeper in Athens at the age of 17.

The German Bundesliga club 1. FSV Mainz 05 signed him for the 2014/15 season . He received a four-year contract. On February 7, 2015 he made his debut for Mainz 05 when he came on for Christian Clemens in the 2-0 home defeat against Hertha BSC after regular goalkeeper Loris Karius had been sent off.

During the 2015 summer break, he moved to the Greek champions Olympiacos Piraeus .

After four appearances for the English second division club Nottingham Forest in the 2017/18 season , the goalkeeper joined Werder Bremen for the 2018/19 Bundesliga season . He made his league debut on April 13, 2019 when he came on as a substitute for the injured Jiří Pavlenka at halftime against SC Freiburg .

National team

Kapino played from the U17 on for Greek youth selections and completed a total of 39 games for these teams. With the U19 he was runner- up in 2012 in Estonia . On November 15, 2011, Kapino made his debut in a friendly against Romania in the men's team of Greece and is the youngest player to have played for the Greek national team at 17 years, 7 months and 28 days.

On May 19, 2014 Kapino was appointed to the squad for the World Cup in Brazil .
