Marco Friedl (born March 16, 1998 in Kirchbichl ) is an Austrian football player . As a ten-year-old he moved to Germany for Bayern Munich and is now under contract with Werder Bremen . Friedl went through all the junior national teams of the ÖFB .

Beginnings

Friedl started his football career at home SV Kirchbichl . There he played regularly in teams of older ages and was regularly top scorer . In 2007 he moved to FC Kufstein . After graduating from elementary school, he finally moved to Germany in the summer of 2008 in the youth department of FC Bayern Munich and commuted almost 100 kilometers between his Austrian homeland and Munich. Initially as a striker used, it acts since the Youth B (U17) primarily as a left outer or as a central defender . In the 2015/16 season , as an A-youth , he made his first four appearances for the second team of FC Bayern in the fourth-class Bavarian regional league .

Professional at Bayern

In 2016 he traveled with the professionals to the training camp in Doha under coach Pep Guardiola and was used for the first time in the subsequent test against Karlsruher SC . He was also nominated for the Champions League . On January 28, 2017 Friedl was in the Bundesliga match against Werder Bremen in the matchday squad, but was not substituted in in the 2-1 away win of FC Bayern.

For the 2017/18 season Friedl moved up to the top of the first team. However, he mainly gained match practice in the second team in the Regionalliga Bayern. Due to the failures of David Alaba and Rafinha , Friedl made his competitive debut for the first team of Bayern on November 22, 2017 in the group stage of the Champions League in a 2-1 away win at RSC Anderlecht . He was called up in the starting line-up by coach Jupp Heynckes . On November 25, 2017, Friedl was substituted on for the injured James Rodríguez at halftime in the Bundesliga match against Borussia Mönchengladbach , making it his first Bundesliga game.

Werder Bremen

At the end of January 2018, Friedl was initially awarded by Bayern Munich to league rivals Werder Bremen for a year and a half in order to gain match practice. By the end of the 2017/18 season , he had made nine Bundesliga appearances. He was also used once in the second team in the third division . In the 2018/19 season Friedl made seven Bundesliga appearances and two appearances in the DFB-Pokal . For the 2019/20 season , Werder Bremen finally acquired the transfer rights to Friedl. In the 2-2 draw against Borussia Dortmund on matchday 6 of the 2019/20 season, he scored his first competitive goal for Werder Bremen with a header.

National team

Friedl has run through all age groups of the junior national teams since the U15 national team. Under coach Rupert Marko , he played nine international matches for the U19 national team in 2016 . In 2017 he moved up to the U21 national team under coach Werner Gregoritsch . On his debut on June 8, 2017 against Gibraltar as part of the qualification for the U21 European Championship 2019, he laid the foundation for a 3-0 success in the 6th minute of the game with his 1-0 goal.

In October 2019 he was nominated for the first time for the senior national team to replace the ailing David Alaba .

Friedl grew up in Kirchbichl in the Kufstein district . There he attended elementary and secondary school and then the commercial school in Wörgl , which he successfully completed in 2013.
