Paul Paulus (born August 1, 1915 in Prien am Chiemsee ; † January 31, 2013 there ) was a German lawyer and Chiemsee painter .

Life

Born as the son of a notary's clerk in Prien, Paul Paulus became enthusiastic about painting very early on, in elementary and middle school. On his way he found people who guided him artistically, of particular importance at the time was the painter Lisbeth Lommel from the “ Welle ” artists' association .

From 1938 to 1950 studied Paul at the request of the Father Law at the Ludwig-Maximilians University in Munich, interrupted by his participation in the Second World War and a prisoner of war from 1939 to 1947. While studying Paul led his private study painting at the reins student Georg Schlechinger continued who above all opened his eyes to nature and from whom he later adopted the preference for the “small format” and the difficult elaboration of his atmospheric pictures.

After his state examination in 1950, he joined the legal department of Hypo-Bank in Munich, where he worked in various positions throughout his professional life. At this time he intensified the collaboration with his younger friend Max Weihrauch , who worked together in the 1950s and 1960s; a time in which extremely brisk, quickly thrown pictures were created, large-format, color-intensive and almost expressive works.

From 1970 he found his own style, which allowed him to tie in with the series of well-known painters of the 19th century - such as Joseph Wopfner , Karl Raupp , Josef Wenglein or Fritz Halberg-Krauss . In them he found his great role models in landscape painting . In the subject of still life he was connected to his contemporary Constantin Gerhardinger , who lived not far from Prien am Samerberg .

Since 1970 he has participated in the exhibitions of the “ Royal Privileged Artists' Cooperative Munich ” in the Haus der Kunst , which brought together traditional artists in particular. There he acted as a juror from 1975, whose judgment was highly valued. Exhibitions in Prien and on Frauenchiemsee strengthened his reputation as a Chiemsee painter of the old school and made him many friends, admirers and imitators.

When he retired in 1978, the bank honored him with an exhibition in the counter hall of the Munich branch.

Paul Paulus is an honorary citizen of the Prien market on the Chiemsee.
