Alexander Nouri (born August 20, 1979 in Buxtehude ) is a German - Iranian soccer coach and former soccer player .

Career

Alexander Nouri was born in Buxtehude near Hamburg as the son of a German and an Iranian who studied chemistry in Germany . As a teenager he played at TSV Altkloster , Buxtehuder SV , at SC Vorwärts-Wacker 04 Billstedt and in the B and A youth teams of Werder Bremen . After signing a licensed player contract with Werder Bremen in 1998, he played on loan from July to October 1999 in the US with the Seattle Sounders in the USL A-League .

After his return he played for the Werder Bremen reserve team in the third-class Regionalliga Nord until he moved to league rivals KFC Uerdingen 05 in July 2001 . In the summer of 2004 he followed his trainer Claus-Dieter Wollitz to the regional league club VfL Osnabrück , with whom he was promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga in 2007 . In 2007/08 he played a total of 17 second division games for Osnabrück and reached 12th place in the table. For the 2008/09 season Nouri moved to the regional league team Holstein Kiel (4th league), where he signed a three-year contract. In 2009 he was promoted to the 3rd league with the storks , which was followed by direct relegation a year later. For the 2010/11 season, the upper division VfB Oldenburg reported him as a new addition. In the following season he went to the state league reserve of VfB Oldenburg, where he ended his active football career in the summer of 2012.

Nouri was a German U-15 and U-16 national player and took part in the U-16 European Football Championship in 1996 . In 2005 he received an invitation from the Iranian Football Association to attend a course in England , but was unable to attend due to an injury. After that, according to Nouris, there was no longer any contact.

Coaching career

At VfB Oldenburg , Nouri worked as a player in the youth performance center as an athletics trainer and from summer 2011 to April 2013 as a coaching assistant . On April 22, 2013 he became head coach and sporting director of VfB Oldenburg in the Regionalliga, with whom he reached third place in the table at the end of the 2013/14 season .

From July 1, 2014, Nouri was assistant coach for the professional and U-23 teams of SV Werder Bremen ; he received a three-year contract. After the release of professional coach Robin Dutt on October 25, 2014 and the subsequent promotion of Viktor Skripnik to Bundesliga head coach, Nouri took over the U-23 regional league team. With her he became champion in the Regionalliga Nord and rose to the 3rd division after she had prevailed in the promotion games against Borussia Mönchengladbach II . In spring 2016 he acquired the UEFA Pro license from the Hennes Weisweiler Academy .

After Viktor Skripnik's leave of absence in September 2016, Nouri temporarily became the coach of the Bundesliga team. In October 2016 he was finally appointed the new head coach and his contract, which ran until the end of the season, was adjusted accordingly. With SV Werder he reached 8th place in the final table in the 2016/17 season . After 13 winless Bundesliga games in a row and being in the penultimate place in the table, the club put him on leave on October 30, 2017.

On September 24, 2018, Nouri took over the second division team of FC Ingolstadt, which was in 15th place in the table after six match days with five points, as the successor to Stefan Leitl . He signed a contract that ran until June 30, 2020. After the team failed to win eight competitive games and slipped to the bottom of the table, Nouri was released on November 26, 2018.

On November 27, 2019, Nouri became Jürgen Klinsmann's assistant trainer at the first division club Hertha BSC . The coaching team's engagement lasted until the end of the 2019/20 season . After Klinsmann resigned as head coach on February 11, 2020, Nouri took over the team until further notice. At this point in time, after the 20th matchday, Hertha was in 14th place with 23 points, with 6 points ahead of the relegation place. Nouri looked after the team in 4 Bundesliga games, in which he scored 5 points and u. a. was responsible for a 5-0 home defeat against 1. FC Köln . At the beginning of April he was replaced by Bruno Labbadia during the league interruption triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic . At this point in time, after the 25th matchday, Hertha was in 13th place, with the advantage over the relegation place unchanged at 6 points.

Personal

Nouri has Iranian roots and has both German and Iranian citizenship, but according to his own statement, speaks only a little Persian . From 2009 to 2013 he took a distance learning course in health management at DHfPG , which he completed with the academic degree of Bachelor of Arts . He is married and has two children.
